Just got back from 8000 miles to Kenai and back with 28ft 5th wheel and don't regret taking it at all .Theres a area from Destruction Bay to Beaver Creek (100 miles) thats alittle slow because of frost heaves but its sure nice to lay back in a recliner every evening.

RE: Watson Lake

Just got back from Minnesota to Kenai trip there was major road construction west of Destruction Bay all along Kluane Lake and new bridge being built.
Yeesh - it was that way when we drove through there in '06! I guess that was my point when someone posted there was nothing being done to improve the road.

Cassier hwy 37

Wondering if anyone has been through there this summer and what the road conditions are like pulling 5th wheel, also is there plenty of fueling(diesel) spots? We are in Watson Lake for 2 days and are thinking of going on to Anchorage and coming back down 37. Talked to a neigbor camper who just came from Anchorage area and said there is a construction area 15 to 20 miles by Klaune Lake area thats really ruff.

After reading on the Canada goverment web site that you can fill out a form Non-Resident Firearm Declaration to bring a non restricted firearm for wildlife protection, I did so and also called customs to make sure of it. Now after reading a post that states they had there firearm taken after declaring it is confusing any one else ever had any trouble doing this?

Truck Service Stations

Figuring sometime into our 2 month trip through Canada to Alaska and return I will need oil change on my truck. Is there plenty of places for servicing outside of the major cities. Also have mostly done my own has anyone else serviced (oil/filter) theirs on the road and got rid of oil at drop of places like in the states.

RE: Who is driving to Alaska this summer?

Today we drove Route 99 from Vancouver to Whistler on our way to Cache Creek. I'm told the scenery was beautiful but I was driving and didn't get a chance to see it. The road is under reconstruction, presumably in anticipation of the 2010 Olympics. As a result, the lanes have been temporarily narrowed, the speeds reduced and even on a Sunday it was an unpleasant experience. Mid-week, when the construction crews are working hard, I would anticipate the drive to be even more demanding. So, driving this route might be better deferred 'till next year. Looking at a map I don't see a route 99 by Cache Creek to Vancouver but a route 97 that splits into the west access route and the sea to sky highway is this the area you are addressing?
