Our first trailer didn't have any slides and my wife hated it. We found it to be too cramped for long stays and really felt like we were on top of each other all the time.
The trailer we have now has 2 slides and it is like night and day comparing the two trailers. We now have more than enough room and it is even comfortable when entertaining a few guest.

RE: how much truck to buy.
If you are ONLY towing the trailer on weekends to the local camp ground, get a truck that you can use ever day for other usages. If you are a full timer, get the biggest most powerfull 3/4 ton you can find.
They can be one and the same. I use my big diesel for a DD truck as well, It is incorrect to think a big truck is not a good DD. When not pulling my TT the 6.7 diesel in my truck is getting 18mpg which is as good or better than any gasser. You can say it cost more but if you buy a year or two old you can get them for a good price.

I'll never go back to a gasser again. Nothing compares to a good diesel, it may be more than you need but it sure is nice to have a truck that doesn't ever strain getting you somewhere.

Some like them some don't, someone posted earlier that if you don't think you need a diesel you probably don't. I owned gasser Fords for many years and this past May I bought a Dodge diesel which was my first Dodge and my first diesel. I was averaging about 1.2 mpg in my 01 F-250 V-10. The Dodge is averaging about 18 mpg emty as my daily driver. Even with the cost of diesel being about .30 a gallon more than gas I still save avout $100 per month on fuel for the same average miles driven which more than makes up for the added maintenance cost.
I also find the towing power much more comfortable over my old Ford. I like not hearing the engine strain going up hills and my Dodge rarely drops out of overdrive when towing my TT, not to mention seeing the rpm's sitting around 1600 at 65 mph. While I wont say I'll never go back to a Ford because I have always liked my Ford's and I do also like this new Dodge a lot. I can however say I am another one that will never go back to a gasser no matter who makes it.

saw a few votes for Diamondback covers. Had mine for 3.5 yrs and love it. Rated for 1600lbs.
Here's mine with a smaller 4 wheeler on it.

That would not work for my cart because of the height with the top on it; it would put me more thant 12" above my TT.
I can say I have made several trips with min in the bed and have had no issues. Like I said before I do have to remove my tailgate but that is very easy. We just go back from the coast this afternoon and my little beach buggy is sure nce to have, I bet we put 75 miles on the cart over the last 4 days running around town and up and down the beach.

RE: Portable Gas Grill (Other than the Weber Q)
We use the Coleman roadtrip lxe (blue one) because we can change the cooking plates for grilling, wire grill to hold other pots and pans, and a griddle for large frying jobs. We have it attatched to 15lb propane tank.

Congrats! Nice to get something paid off. Wife and me paid our house off 1 1/2 years ago which was a huge load off our monthly bills. Bought our TT in February and paid cash, We agreed we will not go into debt any more.

I don't understand the sweeping generalization that one should, "never buy a used truck that has been modded...." I installed a trans temp gauge, an egt gauge and a boost gauge in order to take better care of my truck ('96 PSD). I would think this would be a plus, not a minus.
I also agree, I would have liked mine to have been done before I had to spend the extra $1600 to replace the exhaust and buy a tuner. The truck now is much better than before.

Running close to 9,000 with my rig loaded. Keeping it about 65 I get around 12mpg in the flatlands and 10mpg in the hills.

If they are anything like the home versions you will need a water softner or it will calcium up you faucets and water lines pretty quickly. I have one in my home and while they are great you do need a water softner especially in areas where the water is hard..

RE: phobia about 6.7 Cummins emissions problems
I'm running a 2010 with the 6.7 and deleted the DPF. I installed a turbo back 4" Flo-Pro exhaust with muffler and an XRT Pro tuner. I'm running the 60 hp tune and getting good fuel mileage. No need to remove the EGR since the tuner shuts it off. I have had no issues, truck does not smoke, has awesome power and it sounds really nice.
No emissions testing in my state so I have no issues.

Some very good window films out there today. I am running Llumar on my TV that has a 99% UV reduction. Very noticibly cooler in this hot Texas weather and the UV protection is great for my wife who has had a lot of pre-cancerous spots removed over the last several years. On her last car we had the Clear film put on her front windshield to help protect her.

it was all I could do to keep from hitting the retaining wall. The truck veered very hard to the left...
Did you lift off the gas or apply the brakes? Or did you maintain throttle position or increase the throttle? I am trying to compile a set of results and real life examples are far better that what anyone thinks might happen. ;)

Did not apply brakes,I did not want to speed up when I was already doing 75. With the tread wrapped around the axle and steering arm it took all my strength to control it.
I don't think it would have been too bad if it was just a sidewall blowout.
