RE: Ugh- found some water in the overhead bunk- what to do.

I appreciate everyones comments on this- we have a "wet" weekend ahead of us- that makes it tough to get this dried- I also will get a couple of quotes to get this done- while I have the ability- I really don't have the time- comes down to 2 kids below 2 years old and a fulltime plus job with commute time added. Previously mentioned was torque lift's RV- I've been in the store side but not the shop so I'll check with them- and I have a "craiglist" guy coming over- yeah I know- be careful. This really comes down to getting it down right and in a reasonable amount of time.
I have dried the inside out with a heater and open the outside up to ventilate it- but we have the next 5 days of rain-being this is on the bottom side I am less concerned- but it will take longer.

Ugh- found some water in the overhead bunk- what to do.

Well it finally happened to us- I was getting ready to prepare for Memorial Day weekend and found some water in the overhead bunk- It wasn't a lot so I started looking for where it might have gotten in- I found the Overhead seem along the passenger side above the door to have a loose seem of calk- great- so I peel at it a bit and push in it and found quite a bit of moisture- after taking some screws out and breaking about 2-3 feet of caulk seem I have a bit of water coming and out and looks like a little separation between the layers below the filon-
I am in a bit of a quandary here- do I try to fix them myself- or pay a local shop to do this- I think have the ability but would like some guidance here- our RV is a 2008 Winnebago 24' Access, we plan on keeping it a long time. I'd like everyone;s take on this- should I repair it myself- or should I find someone on the SouthSide of seattle to do this for me- I am in kent and really don't care for most of the RV shops local to me- but I am open to suggestions.
This hits me in the gut pretty hard as I think we need to cancel our weekend camping plans to let this dry out.
I posted these with tinypic and setup with 640x480- hopefully these are the right size

RE: ATS301 Automatic Generator Transfer switch isn't working

No Idea we'd only camped for about 5 weeks last year. And not all of that used power and we have solar so the generator isn't used all that often.

RE: Dinghy Requirements.

We have the chevy cruze eco- we consistently get 34 with mixed city highway driving. we have everything for towing but haven't gotten it setup yet- takes time I haven't had- not a bad car- turbo is kind of fun- I have never put premium in mine- so not sure where that came from

RE: Surge Guard 30amp hardwired install questions.

On ours I installed it on the floor behind the inverter- our was under a cabinet that had extra space accessible byvtakingba drawer out. To see it I just open the drawer. To wire it- I took the incoming line to the converter and ran it to the surge guard. Then put a new wire to the converter. Works great.

RE: add 30A outlet from Generator with Automatic transfer switch

I still have the 30Amp RV style plug- and I always have had adapters from the past- I was just figuring the best way to wire it- did I want to isolate the path to the ATS if I was using the outlet- is pretty much my only question

RE: add 30A outlet from Generator with Automatic transfer switch

I am just looking to have an outlet available for use for something like the RV- or power something outside the RV I will not be feeding the house. My coach originally only had an outlet- and I got tired of moving the plug back and forth- so I put the transfer switch in- now that its failed- I think I want a back up solution-
Parallax's method of testing the transfer switch was to swap the leads between the shore power and gen leads- with some caveats.

add 30A outlet from Generator with Automatic transfer switch

Some you may have see where I have a Parallax ATS301 Transfer switch that failed- I am waiting for a replacement from Parallax, but was thinking that since I took out the 30amp receptacle that went to the generator- whats the best way to install a 30AMP receptacle from the generator and keep that Automatic transfer switch- this way if it fails- I do not have "rewire" things to make it work- Do I need lockouts to send power to the receptacle or to the transfer switch? (I am not back feed a house or anything) I want the ability to plug the RV Shore Power to the generator or run something outside the RV - like a heavy duty extension cord back to the house for refrig and other small appliances.
Thanks I appreciate the feedback- Currently the transfer switch takes a feed directly from the generator and a feed from the short power. I was thinking of just putting an outlet in line to the Transfer switch- and just patch the power from the outlet box to the transfer switch- but I wanted to validate this concept.

RE: ATS301 Automatic Generator Transfer switch isn't working

It is interesting to hear everyone else's experience. We traveled in the rv probably 6 weekend last year and didn't have plug ins that often. There hasn't been a load during the transfers, so not sure what it is. I'll check more voltage when the weather is a little nicer. Thanks

ATS301 Automatic Generator Transfer switch isn't working

I purchased and installed an Parallax Power ATS301 last spring and up until about 2 months ago it worked fine- switching between power sources- then the last time I went to exercise the generator- it would not switch over to supply the power when I disconnected the short power. I've run the generator twice- before I was able to investigate- but today I took the cover over an ran a voltage testor to it- Generator is putting out 120V on the line coming in- but the transfer switch is not energizing- shore power works fine. I verified the ATS is about 14 months old- so I get I'll call Parallax and see what they say- anyone know how to investigate these units any more?

RE: "How do they do that?"

Or the one where you are so excited to go somewhere you forgot to disconnect the shortpower from the rig to the house and stretch the cable a bit...., or leave the antenna up and "adjust" the mast as you drive under a tree.

RE: Where to buy a decent snatch block?

lots of online dealers sell warn. I have both ARB and Warn snatch blocks- depending on the amount of winch line you have they can be very helpful.. Saved my friends bacon a few times.

RE: Single retired male, what size RV should I get?

Hello- funny you mention Wendell Idaho- I went to school there in the late 80's, its truly a small town- You didn't mention anything about towing a vehicle but did call out a "caravan" are you looking at towing it? You can find some pretty good deals on craigslist if you want and are fast. I have found full towbar setups for $100 or less. One thing people haven't spoken to much about is getting a Inspection list together when you find a rig you want to buy- there are several on the board that are work following- but ask them to run the refrig for you before you get there- that is one of the more expensive repair options.

RE: How many miles on your Ford V-10, and what problems?

You see a lot of rental units with 100K plus for sale a lot- folks say the V10 is a very long lasting engine. With good maintenance.

RE: Manual to Power Awning Conversion - Filling Holes?

Another thing to do it put sealant in the holes and leave the screws in them. I have seen this done on a lot of things over the years. It just looks like something from the back side is connected.

Once you are already registered in Washington system you can easily change your address. We moved not a long time back and could do everything online (posted above). Include renew tabs, they will mail you new plates every 7 years too.

RE: Modifications on a new RV

We bought ours used- last year I purchased a product called "Hot Rod" basically a heating element that goes into the drain plug-not the most efficient method of getting hot water- some people like it some don't- I haven't installed it yet but we camp occasionally with electrical hook ups and it would be nice to have.
