RE: Both a/c's not working??

Sounds to me like the surge protector has low voltage protection cut off and shut down when the voltage was low.

RE: Accident on I-24, 15 miles from Chattanooga

prayers sent
lesson I take away: never stay in RV if parked on side of interstateThe guy who was killed was outside of his motorhome working on it. Would have been far better off staying inside of it, looking at the picture of the old motorhome.. This was a different accident than the one the op reported. Both incidents very sad. This is why so many states are writing slow down/move over laws! Way to many patrolmen and highway workers, in addition to general public motorists are getting killed because people don't slow down and move over.
Was once broke down on one of the exit ramps between one interstate and another interstate down in Tennesses. The tow truck operator told me that he had been hit 3 different times on that particular exit ram when hooking up to broken down vehicles.

RE: S2000?

The S2000 is a sweet, little car. The problem with some manual transmissions is that the driveshaft will keep turning some of the gears but not necessarily the ones needed to splash oil around inside the case when in neutral. That causes bearing failures.
In THEORY you could put the tranny in 6th gear and rig up something to keep the clutch pedal depressed and things SHOULD be fine.
The "something" would need to be very fail safe.In theory, if you kept the clutch pedal on the floor you'd probably wear out your clutch throw out bearing in a hurry.I was thinking the same thing about the throw out bearing.

RE: disability hearing???

And some disabilities are not outwardly visible to others, but can be very dangerous to others who have to work around or near those people who have the disability. Even to the general public if they are exposed to that worker with the disability.

RE: air compressor for inflating tires

The on board compressor on a diesel pusher WILL NOT work for more than 100 PSI easily. Most mid to heavy weight diesel pushers call for 120-125 PSI in the front tires. Being low on air 20-25 PSI is very significant, as most times the two front tires are at their maximum weight capacity with full air PSI in the tire.
We have many discussions on this site about how a toad brake system may net you two extra feet stopping distance on these big mid to heavyweight Diesels making you "safer" :R, but for any fellow diesel pusher owners, PLEASE put that 120-125 PSI in your front tires. If your Front Tire blows out due to being underinflated or overloaded at 70 MPH, you most likely screwed and there will probably be a REAL safety issue! But the the on board compressor will if you know how to work it! Lots of RVers and over the road truck drivers use the engine's air compressor for airing up tires and even to operate air tools. But the engine has to be operating at higher RPM to gain the necessary air pressure. And we have tire air gauges to insure proper air pressure in tires.

RE: Is this legal?

While I prefer to get info from official sites here is one and its info on nc appears to be correct.
Looks like I was right about OR.
Well, I wouldn't count on that site for accuracy - it says that Triple Towing is not allowed in Colorado, and it is!
Also, never understood why some folks call it triple towing - It is Double Towing if you are towing two trailers. Now we do see a lot of triples on I-70 here in Colorado - UPS, Fedex and numerous other OTR companies have their semis pulling three trailers. I see them every day.
While none of the sites showing towing laws should be accepted as 100% accurate, I have always found This One to be pretty good. To be 100% you should alwayd contact the DOT for the State in which you are going to travel.
I actually think the site you mentioned is wrong on nc. It says weight on brakes for trailers at 1000 lbs. it's more than that. More like 4000lbs. I believe the 1000 lbs is on house trailers. But trailers in general or anything else towed is 4000 lbs
And I see they call it triple towing too.The legal defination of towing two trailers with one power unit in most states is called triple towing. And they use a completely different legal defination where it refers to commercial vehicle requiring a CDL that falls under federal law.

What county is the tag from?
Can't make out the county, but it is Florida and appears to start out with a 5. But it looks like something before the 5 that I can't make out.

RE: Camping pet peeve

My biggest camping pet peeve is somebody walking thru my campsite....what is yours so I will make sure not to do it.
Not trying to cause an argument, just curious why you care if they walk through?
Would you care if someone walked thru your hotel room?? Same thing imo....or if people walked thru your backyard?
It is the same as a person walking in the hall of the hotel my room is in, not walking through my room. If the offenders of sensibilities walk through my RV we will have a problem. If they walk on a site I am temporarily granted to site my MH on I just don't care.
I have had real vexation in my life and someone walking on grass isn't one that I can get worked up over. I think after being shot at, all else pales.I use to get upset with people walking on my grass when I was in the army unless they were on police call. But I ain't in the army any more.

RE: Camping pet peeve

Mine is relaxing at the campsite on a cool quiet evening after a long day of activities and somebody walks into MY campsite unannouced and uninvited asking me how I like my truck. I politely reply how I love it and it does the job well.
Then he starts preaching how it's not enough truck, I should expect problems, he knows somebody who knows somebody who has taken theirs to the shop so many times, bla, bla, bla. I should have looked at the Dodge diesel, that engine bla, bla, bla...
Give me a break!
Well, Ford does seem to be having their share of problems with their Ecoboost engines. My son has one, loves the truck and might like the engine if they could get it to run right.

RE: Cell Phones.. did you know??

Repeaters for police and fire will not pick up cell phone signals. If you are meaning their actual communications channels.
They use different frequencies and modulation techniques.
A separate antenna connected to different base unit on the same tower will receive 911 calls. Not too common yet, but increasing in mountainous rural areas.
Can you explain this a bit more please. Some new piece of communications equipment on the market?
Cell phones do not connect to 911 dispatch centers via their towers or radios. They connect via phone lines. The cell towers and vendors send that information via their infrastructure.Inquiring minds also want to know about this too. In my humble opinion, it is going to be routed thru the cell phone intrastructure before it gets to the 911 center, and not the 911 tower. It is possible that the cell phone service has provided a small repeater transceiver, but I know nothing about that. And just less than a year ago things in California's 911 system were not all that wonderful: http://www.cnn.com/2010/TECH/mobile/09/08/emergency.numbers/index.html

RE: Help!! Need Pa-NY suggestions

Been years since I've been on that highway. Us truckers use to call it the the Ho Chi Minh Trail or just "The Trail" way back in the late '70s and early '80. That might give you a idea of what it was like back then. I-84 came along and replaced it. I have no idea of what it is like today. At least there should not be any truck traffic to contend with today. Should be much more civil than what it was back then. But probably still narrow and curvy.

RE: Does Length Matter?

Sure length matters. Your 32' Keystone Everest 293P, pulled by your 2001 Ford F-250 is probably 52 foot long, but it bends where the 40 some foot diesel pusher doesn't bend. But when you put a toad behind it, it bends in a different place than your current rig. The Lazy Days Driver Confidence Course will help you out. And tail swing is not where near as bad as the fire hydrant sitting on the corner.

RE: Is this legal?

Common sense should be the guiding force here - regardless of legality. So true, and I have seen remains of travel trailer wrecks in many highway medians over many years, that my common sense tells me no way would I ever ask a loved one to ride in the travel trailer, let alone doing it myself!!! I don't care if the law does say I can do it! And when I say "remains of travel trailers", usually there isn't much left that is recognizable as having once been any type of trailer, except for the axles.

RE: WALMART RV Parking

Respectfully disagree. I think the RV parks are missing out on a potential market.
I, for one, would gladly pay a reasonable fee (no more than $10) for a quieter parking spot without the noise of traffic, shopping cart gatherers, and street sweepers. I just don't need even one of the services (not even the garbage can) so I don't want to pay $35 to $40 for them. The parks can have rules re what is allowed-generators, etc. I would also give those parks my business for the times when I DO want them.
You seem to imply there are lots of $10.00 options out there if one looks - Well, they're not obvious enough and, in many areas, non existent.
When RV park owners see RVs in the Walmart lot, they should be thinking, how can I get them to come and check out my park? Not - how can I stop Walmart from taking my business. The smart ones may decide to offer "FREE" parking outside their gates - with a free coffee in the morning while they show you the campground.
We're not at Walmart because we're cheap (RVing isn't cheap, after all).Actually, when I see people staying at Walmart, I just think they are not my customers. Kind of like if you had a high end restaurant and saw a whole bunch of kids at Chuck E. Cheese, you don't think you could add a giant gameroom and suddenly have that business. The Hilton doesn't think if they just added a bunkroom, they could get those young people that stay at hostels or tent in the national forests. They are different customers. I put my time, energy and money into making my parks the best they can possibly be for my customers. I am not going to pivot 180 degrees and try to attract a different clientel, which the Walmart overnighter would be. Concentrating on business you do not have, at the possible expense of your current customers is usually a very bad business decision. BTW, if you think there is a vast market for $10.00 RV sites and that there is vast profits to be made with that business plan, start some parks, I can pretty much assure you that you won't have much competition. But you are failing to realize that many of the so called Walmart overnighters also stay at RV parks when they get to their destinations.
As to business plans involving RV parks, I found out a long time ago that were I to buy a RV park, or campground, that I was just buying myself a full time job and and very big money pit. I looked very seriously at two of them.

RE: Passenger mirror broken

Ask those in the know:
Georgie Boy Club forums
or maybe the
Forest River Owners forum over at IRV2.com, seeing that Georgie Boys lineage comes down to the current Forest River line of motorhomes.
And I'll tell you what, looking at a image of a 2008 Georgie Boy Pursuit mirror, it sure looks just like the Velvac on my '94 Foretravel and on my old Tiffin Allegro.
