Just had the MH in the shop for state inspection sticker and it barely passed because of cloudy plastic headlight covers. I was told that this is a big problem with older MHs. I was told by inspector that you can buy a plastic cleaner at Wal-Mart and restore the brightness. Unfortunately, I didn't have pencil to write down name of the product. Does anyone know of such a product or have other solutions to the dim headlight probme. Any help will be appreciated since I don't want to pony up $200 plus for a couple pieces of plastic.

I just went on line an looked up PLASTIC POLISH and found a bunch. One that stands out is a Maguiar Product Plastic Polish another one that I have used is Novus. It's a two part part product, get #2 and #1, if you can find it. You might go on line as I did.

I bought some Plexiglas cleaner, I use it to clean the windshield on my golf cart. they sell this at most auto parts stores. It works just great, will restore glass to original.--jt

I think there are two kinds of cloudy plastic problems... The advice I have seen would certainly work with the kind of cloudiness associated with abrasion such as would be caused by a sand storm but what I think your talking about is the UV yellowing that occurs with plastic not sure how to cure that but I am thinking that attempting to polish or rub it out might make the problem worse There is a company call Janvil that specializes in plastic restoration compounds Scratch Polish There is also another company that offers products for plastic restoration Called Superior Products Superior Restoration A call to either or both might prove productive..

Good Luck!

What is used on some commercial aircraft is "Meguires Mirror glaze" to remove the yellow and polish the scratches out.

I use Meguires Mirror Glaze...It works ok on my Bass Boat's Windshield but it will not help the deep scratches...It's expensive too....I still use it...

Does anyone know if any of these products will work on high end plastic lensed(iridium?) sunglasses? I have a pair of Maui Jim's about $130.00 and even though you use the special dust free cloth and spray cleaner they still scratch. They are to the point of cloudy now.
Thanks

Went thru this on my Windsor. Was like trying to drive with candles out there. Nothing in the way of polish or cleaner would work. I have enough of that crap around here to hold a yard sale for it alone. I finally called Monaco and they gave me their suppliers name and I had to bite the bullet and ordered new headlights for the coach. I suspect that is what everyone who has this problem will need to do. This problem is present on older cars and trucks as well, and a lot of these coach builders are using or have used the same parts in past models. Jack.

Weinerbago Most all recent headlight systems for RV's have been adapted from automotive headlights. From my background as a supplier of injection molded headlight assemblies I know that 90% of said assemblies are produced from Polycarbonate with a special silicon hard coating overlay of about 10 thousanths. The problem in trying to ressurect a light lens to like new is that the Polycarb material of which it is made is not very resistant to the sun and it yellows--sometimes all the way thru. When you try to polish the surface you end up with a mess trying to get through the hard silicon , and the if you luck out and get it all off you still have yellowed plastic to deal with. I have tried rubbing out on a number of old headlight lenses with very poor success. You can thank the DOT for the "anti-scratch". specs. on all headlights. To get it like new ,unfortunately you'll have to buy new. Fredbob
