Plank flooring comes standard in the kitchen and bath areas of a Newmar Dutch Star. The ceramic tile options for these two areas are a bit pricy. Does anyone have experience with both of these floors and is the upgrade worth it?

Is the plank flooring really sheet flooring or sections of flooring that interlock? The sheet flooring which is wood and looks like hardood tongue and groove flooring is very practical and easier to walk on than ceramic. The sheet flooring is what I have in the kitchen. Wood is much lighter than ceramic and you won't get cracks in the grout. The ceramic floors in MHs don't seem to crack but I don't see how they manage it.

The Dutch Star DP has a no charge option on their price sheet of 12" Marble Look Floor Tile for both kitchen and bath. I don't know if that may help, but I believe I've seen them and they look pretty good as I recall.

We have had 2 Class A coaches, both with ceramic tile and perfer it over everything else. We feel that this type floor is the most durable and looks the best in a coach. We never experienced any cracks, not even in the grout and never heard of any problems with Tiffin or Newmar products, but this may be more of an issue with other coaches that we're not familar with. This also was not a factor with the C.C.C. since both on our coaches were DP's with 3000 and 5900 lbs. of C.C.C.
Our experience in homes with wood planking and hardwood floors is that they easily scratch, dent and dull due to moving furniture or tracking in dirt from the outside, even with a satin finish.
IMO, If I were ordering a new Newmar coach today, my first choice would be ceramic tile , second choice would be the simulated tile and last choice would be the wood planking due to everday wear and tear and long term durabilty.

We have a Dutch Star on order and we ordered every option except for the creamic floor. We really spent many hours discussing this and finally made a decision as we were making up the order. We decided on the new "Faux" simulated ceramic flooring which snaps together. You would swear it's ceramic tile. Even has the ridges and inperfections of rough tile and we think one would have to look very closely to see the difference. This option was not on the option list but found out they were going to offer it. Also had it put in the front entrance by the drivers seat etc.
We also like the plank flooring but decided to go with the newest thing.
Anyone order this or seen it in a coach?

We ordered the plank flooring in our '03 KSDP throughout the kitchen and bath areas. It's much easier in the feet and legs than ceramic (we have over 1500 ft of ceramic at home...and therefore are very familiar with its benefits and disadvantages) and is very durable. This is the simulated wood flooring in small plank sections, and is composed of manmade and natural materials. It took a direct hit from a kitchen skillet without a dent or scratch. In the end, it boils down to personal preference. After a years use with three boys and two adults, it looked good as new.

We have ceramic in our kitchen area. Two tiles cracked when the coach was just a few months old because of improper slideout adjustment. After the re-adjustment of the slideout, the dealer replaced the two cracked tiles. Now.....3 years later it still looks brand new. Much easier to keep clean than any other type of floor, if you ask me. We prefer it.

We have ceramic in our home, we had the wood floor in our Dutch Star, and now have the marble looking tile in the Kountry Star. Of all of those I'll take the wood, and so would my wife...

As everyone can see, these different floor choices are very subjective. It's good that Newmar offers these 3 choices, some manufacters don't offer this flexibility. When we ordered on new DSDP it was difficult to decide, especially since the ceramic tile is rather pricey. I would be happy with any of three choices since they are all nice quality.
