Not sure if this is being posted in the correct section. New to RVing. Picking up our new TT this week. Currently have cable in home. Will change to DirectTV or Dish so we can take it on the road. Which would be easier to use while on the road, DirectTV or Dish, and why?
If it helps with our decision, we are on the west coast.
Thanks

You might check the websites for both companies. I have Dish, but a buddy has directtv to get the NFL package. The sat music channels is nice to have, we use it all the time at home.
I have had Dish for 6 years, and for about 5 in the RV. I just switched to Direct TV, and I feel that Direct TV is easier to set up. The reason being is the with Dish you have to aim at two satellites, where as direct you only have to aim at one. We typically camp in pretty wooded areas, and with Dish I could most of the time hit one satellites, but had a hard time getting both. I am sure there are some that disagree with me, but I have seen both work, and Direct seams to be a little easier.

Dish is a pain in the butt. It's hard to align a tripod-mounted dish - as other threads in the forum show - and programming for Dish 500 is split between two satellites, so with a single LNB dish like a Kingdome, you have a hassle flipping channels.
On the other hand, Dish points higher in the sky, so can see over trees more easily. And at least for my favorite channels, Dish has a less expensive package.

Dish points higher in the sky? This is not what Direct TV told me. They sell the fact
that there satellites are higher in the sky than Dish. Not saying it is true, that that
is what they told me last week.

Direct is what I have, hard enough to line up one Satellite let alone two, I made one of them PVC pipe dish holder's a three legged one,
haven't had much trouble getting on the Sat, only problem has been trees in the way, I have 50 ft of cable and that may not be enough in some spots to get away from trees, so I think I will get another 50 ft of cable before we go out next time,,,,,,,

So far I've had much better luck with the hardware reliability of Dish. We went through several Directv boxes, and it had a bad habit of losing its programming. So we would have to call Directv to reprogram the box frequently.
On the flip side, my neighbor had more hw issues with Dish, and no problems with Direct. So go figure.
As far as costs go, Dish is cheaper than Direct for us for a similar level of programming.

I'm pretty sure it's true. I've looked at a lot of dishes around the campgrounds to check this. The technician who did the PDI with me first mentioned this regarding my single LNB Kingdome.
