Coming in from the south on highway 2 then wanting to head west on highway 1 toward Banff National Park is there a bypass or any other decent roads to the southwest to miss main part of Calgary?

Highway 22X (just as entering Ca;lgary) to highway 22 is good.
If you are coming from the west, or have a bit of time, Highway 22 from highway 3 to 1 is a nice drive. Good road and more scenic than highway 2.

Trigley's advice is good. Unless you have areason to see Calgary while on highway 3 stay on it to just west of Pincher creeak and take 22 all the way to the trans canada Highway at Cochrane (just west of the city.
Better yet - from 2 go west at Longview then north on 40 through the Kananaskis Valley to the Trans Canada.

Agree, just make sure the Highwood Pass on #40 is open. It's seasonal & I believe opens in early June.

Quickest way is 2 North(4 lane) to 22X west(2lane) then turn north on 22(2 lane thru Bragg Creek until Highway 1. Nice drive too!! Depending on what time of day going thru Calgary( Anderson Road west to 14th Sreet north, then Glenmore west to # 8 highway to 22 just south of the #1)will take about 40 minutes, same as #22 West. 22W is a lot less hassle
