Good news about Harlee!! As we get older, we all seem to get more lumps and bumps!!

We have an allergy dog - BenBen _ and he is on herring and sweet potato. Doesn't stop the grass itches though!

Lance, a lot of dogs can't properly metabolize beef, our two girls included. It seems so anti-logic, but it's true. I would definitely try the potato/duck and see how that goes. With the prednisone, it will shorten his life and cause other problems eventually (I know this personally) and you can't stop it cold turkey. You have to taper off to a small dose and then finally none. It's a really helpful drug, short term, but amazingly destructive to muscle and other body systems. Poi is a miracle food, isn't it? I once heard of a small child allergic to EVERYTHING and he lived on Poi. Probably wouldn't hurt Calvin if you could get some as an additive for him.

Yes, there are a lot of stories like the one you mentioned where the family had the Poi shipped to them. To be use with people with digestive or allergy type problems (?).

Most of us local kids where brought up on the stuff. I had allergies and I feel it help me with this problem when I was younger.

When I landed myself in the Hospital this year. All I could keep down for more then a few months was Poi and Smoked Salmon. I was very fortunate to have an Asian/Hawaiian Food Store locally when I was in Phoenix.

Although I was kidding about adding Poi in Calvin’s diet. It did cross my mind as I have a few bags in the freezer. My main concern was if the Poi would be a poison to him, like so many plants, nuts or fruits are to dogs.

As far as the Prednisone, Although Calvin is on a low dose. He’s been on the stuff for a few months now, but would like to get him off the stuff as soon as I can.

So, tomorrow it’s off to the Pet Store to purchase his new food and find a different type of chew stick (in lieu of the Beefy Sticks which the kids love).

Thanks again everyone,

Pops

Harlee's check up was really great. However, it does make me sad sometimes, seeing how grey she's getting and how she's slowing down at times.

After seeing/watching the dynamics (relationship) between Harlee and the Knucklehead. It was the best thing I could have done, finding and bringing Calvin into the family. He’s been really great for her (but, don't tell Calvin that...LOL).

No matter how old she's getting, she's still the Clan's "Baby Girl"...

Hi Pops,

I know where there is a bottle of black dye for Ms. Harlee. Just kidding! Of course.

Glad Baby Girl is doing well and that Calvin is keeping her "up to snuff"

Regards,
Dawn

BenBen got gray very early and I checked with the vet. She couldn't find that it meant anything but that he was getting gray early!! I am totally gray, so we fit well together. Tell Harlee that I don't color my hair because I think the gray is pretty on me and on her!!

OK Barb, white/gray hair is very pretty! Just yesterday, I saw a lady with long white hair and was thinking to myself that it was very striking. Better than a bottle of bleach as I am inclined to do.

Pops,

I have tried Poi several times....guess it is an acquired taste. Unfortunately to me, it tasted like it looked, Paper Mache! Please don't be offended.

Regards,
Dawn

LOL...That's why you have to eat the stuff with something salty like Kalua Pig, fish or the like, otherwise it's bland...

When Ma eats Poi she makes a concoction what she call's a Poi Cocktail, mixing milk and sugar in it.

Calvin like’s it, Calvin likes it;

I’m really happy that Calvin is not a picky eater. I think it’s in his nature to like different foods, when he was a stray. Having to eat whatever there was (don’t know).

Anyway, I mixed in half and half of the Duck and Potato Allergy Formula this evening and all is well (as far as his appetite).

One other thing, has anyone noticed after taking the dogs out for a ride (maybe an hour or so). That the ride acts like a laxative?

Every time, we return from a trip. Harlee and now Calvin poops shortly after. Oh, the simple things in Life....

BTW, thanks again Doc for your response in regards to Calvin’s new diet. Crossing my fingers that we hit this on out of the park, rather then a miss…LOL
