toolman1 wrote: Be advised. Most of the trails/roads back in the Holcomb valley are CA. licensed vehicles only. OHV's are a no-no, last I heard. Green/Red stickers, don't matter. Check w/ the rangers to be certain, and if allowed, spark arrestors will be mandatory!
This time of the year, NO fires, not even BBQ's in the back country.
That was one of the issue's we had when my son and I went up for a day run a few years ago in the middle of summer. We had 2 Honda XR 4 stroke green sticker bikes and I could not get 3 rangers (2 in the station and 1 on the dirt roads to confirm where we could and could not ride. 2 of them said we couldn't ride on any trails unless we had license plated bikes and 1 said it was ok as long as we were just green stickered and had spark arrestors which we did. I don't think they all understand what a green stickered bike is. We just shined it on and drove out to the derert and road for a couple hours. Man it was hot.
Have fun and let us know how it goes. If it goes well for you I may give it another try.

Here's the deal if your riding on a trail head and it's marked say 2n37 it's ok for a dirt bike but if your on 3n14 you'll need a street legal only!! Maybe next time just ask the ranger for a map. That sucks they weren't more helpful don't let that shy you away from an awesome area to ride when it hot.You get there at say 6am do a forty mile loop your done by 7:30-8

Actually they were trying to be helpful. I just don't think they new what exacly the difference was when I tried to tell them what the difference was between the bikes. Actually were looking at one of their maps with them when we were discussing it. Think I remember 3n14. Was it maybe the smoothest road back into the trails and campgrounds?? We were on it when we stopped the 1 ranger and asked which trails. Maybe we'll give another try. Thanks.
Great pics by the way. Looks like it would be worth another try.

IIRC 3n14 is suitable for most cars and trucks.

SBNF OHV info
There are 3 maps on the page listed above. Each map has a legend that will let you know which trails green sticker vehicles are allowed on.
Every legal trail in the SBNF has a DVR (Designated Vehicle Route) sign. The DVR will let you know which vehicles are allowed on the trail.
