You should be able to make arrangements to have your bank wire the $ to the dealer after you have seen & approved of the unit. That would save you two trips if you like the unit and save you a lot of $ and headache if you don't.

No way I would wire the money before seeing the unit.

Ditto, this is the way the transaction should be handled.
If the funds are wired in the morning they should be credited to the Dealer's account the same day.

There isn't really any reason that a Dealer shouldn't take a personal check. A Buyer's check gives the Dealer a purchase funds lien.
The Dealer's Bank can call the Buyer's Bank to verify available funds and then have a hold placed for specific amount and check number. But few understand this, so wiring the funds after you have decided to purchase the unit, safely accommodates both parties.

Also if you are unsure about the Dealer's financial soundness you may want to check with their Bank, to determine if they have any 'floor plan' liens on the unit, that may require a collateral pledge or secured party lien release.

If you are buying off Craigs List, you might want to check the warnings.

100% of the deals that require "wire money" and they will ship car or other are scams. I heard this on Clark Howard.

Where is the dealer located? Someone here might be willing to have a look for you. I live about 20 miles from RV Wholesalers and have a camper located near them. I could easily take and send you digital pictures of things I saw.

The dealer is in Idaho.
I called Lakeshore RV in Michigan, as they sell tons of them sight unseen. The lady I talked to was awesome.
She said you send a deposit (enough to at least cover shipping) and a copy of the bank draft, then when you pick up the trailer you hand over the original bank draft. That sounds perfectly reasonable and I'd feel comfortable buying that way. That's basically what we did when we bought our pickup from the US except we wired the money I think. And he sent a bill of sale too. Anyway it was easy and the truck is perfect.

My guys seem to think the bank draft could be reversed after we drive away. I can understand them not wanting us to take it into Canada without cleared payment, as it would be difficult to get back.

It's a new trailer, so there really shouldn't be a lot wrong with it, but we still need to check it out first. Too bad no one trusts one another any more.

It's not as simple as it used to be, since the customers are more solvent than the dealers these days.

I would disagree and think you have MORE chance with "wrong" buying a new rig than buying used, as the used buy is typically dialed in.

This is not a matter of trust. Read the many, many posts here from new buyers with problems.

I'm buying a WW sight unseen right now. The dealer, so far, has been great. He took extra pics for me of things that were not in the listing and walked through the unit while on the phone with me and aswered all sort of questions w/o complaint. I sent them a $500 deposit via PayPal on a credit card which gives me protection via PayPal and I can always dispute the CC charge if things go bad. I would never wire the full amount or send a bank/cashiers check of any type; you have no recourse and I have seen plenty of internet scams. The rest of the amount will be paid via cash/HELOC check. There were no objections. Let us know how it pans out and good luck!

Thanks Brian. Are you picking yours up, or having it delivered?

I'm a buyer by trade, so I have a psychotic need to research my purchases. I've been shopping quite a while and lurking around here even longer. While the 302 may not be my first choice, it is the choice of the person spending the money.
Unfortunately we can't buy anything close to home - the dealers here can't match the pricing in the US.
We're really not too worried about anything but major warranty issues as my husband can fix anything. But if we land on the lot and find water damage or something equally ugly it's going to be a pain.

I'm heading down to Daytona for Bike Week and they are going to deliver it there to me.
