Updated last night - working great with new 9.0 version - no problems with update. Looks liek it has more user selectable options on scans and updates. Thanks for all the feedback.

I upgraded from 8.5, and started noticing I was having problems when I would be surfing and when I would click on a subject that the screen would freeze, mouse still worked, but was unable to proceed anywhere, backed out of the browser and restarted it and it would be ok for awhile, then started freezing again, tried looking at many things and finally stopped the auto load of AVG. Without AVG running, no problems with freezing, I like the product, but will have to do some research into the freezing issue before it goes back online.....

I have been having similar problems especially while navigating about this site/responding to posts over the last week or so. It has been a very annoying issue. After trying various things, today, I opted to turn off AVG 9's "Link scanner" and that cured the issue. Apparently, link scanner has issues.

Interesting - I just noticed that today and just turned off the Link Scanner - thanks for the tip!

Yes, I have been battling this issue for days.... probably since the install of Free AVG9. I have been doing test posts at forum technical support and Pulsar (moderator) has been giving me dirty looks.. 8-) I though maybe it was an issue on their end not mine.. Finally, today it struck me that the "link scanner" may be the problem. I mentioned I turned the link scanner off but just uninstalled AVG9 and did a reinstall without selecting the option to install link scanner. I did not like the icon in the tray indicating AVG had an issue/something turned off so opted to reinstall. Only took a few minutes. This way I also know link scanner is definitely out of the picture so to speak. If the issues return I know it wasn't link scanner but at this point it sure seems like it was.

I'll ignore the icon for a while - hopefully if that is the problem they will get a fix out. Please keep us posted if you find it's something else.

Well, day 2 without AVG's link scanner and no more issues for me as mentioned earlier in this thread.

I had issues with the screen freeze also I was unable to install one of the MS Windows Defender updates.

Per one of the MS troubleshooting sites they said it was AVG and one other anti spy ware issue might have been SpyBot but not sure.

Dumped AVG for now.

Me too. Screen would also freeze in email program. And adding attachments were a real bear too.

Went to Avast free. No problems, so far.

FYI - I just received an AVG update to 9.0.704. I turned the Link Scanner back on to see if there is any change.
