In the '70's I did a fair amount of tent camping in Colorado, on National Forest land. Never had a problem. But, I did carry a small handgun, just in case. Today the rules are different. Next week I do my first trip with a TT and hope to do some boondocking next summer. I was wondering what RVers do these days about protecting themselves from the possible dangers from large animals and criminals. When prudence and prevention don't work, what next?? Do we just hope that the cavalry shows up in time??

If I thought I had to carry a weapon to safely boondock, I wouldn't do it. Criminals stay where the most unoccupied houses are - they don't go looking for remote RVs to burglarize.
Now, whether a person FEELS safe is another story.
You will get a lot of answers to your question most will be from non firearm owners and people that don’t like them. Best thing to do is carry it in your camper and not let anyone know. I have carried one in camper for about 20 years never needed it but have it and I also will never point it at anything I don’t intend to kill its nothing to play with its no toy.

Not meaning to start a ruckus... just asking if we just sit around and watch the bear consume whatever it wants, including the DW while waiting for a LEO; or, do we become, shall we say, more proactive?? I'm a retired Navy chief and my inclination is to protect, first and foremost. Looking at the NRA's webpage about even a few of the state by state restrictions, it doesn't look any too good.
I always make it a practice to NEVER run with scissors and I don't swim for at least 20 minutes after swimming so beyond that what could happen? Is there some REASON someone would want to harm you? You COULD still carry a fire arm but getting into a gun battle isn't MY idea of a fun camping trip

The censorship is why I've pretty much stopped reading and participating here on the board.
Yes, the biggest risks are if you are in a high crime area of a big city. OTOH, you are pretty much on your own when you are out in the boondocks and 911 response can be an hour if you can get a signal at all. The thought of my wife alone in the forest is why we both got our concealed handgun licenses.
