We're all looking to save money, so using your tried and true home remedies will certainly help! I'd LOVE to hear some of your favorite home remedies! Here's a few of mine!

Patent leather shoes -- clean them with WINDEX. They'll shine like crazy! (I learned this from my nephews, both soldiers in the US Army.)

Sore throat? Gargle with warm salt water. The salt helps to "numb" your throat and helps to stop the coughing. I learned this from my dad, who learned it from his mother! It really, really works!

Dirty Coffee Pot? Add some ice cubes, some salt and some lemon wedges (or lemon juice). Shake around and let sit for half an hour. Rinse and wash. Coffee stains will be gone! We used to have to do this in the restaurants I worked in to clean those coffee pots.

Water stains/spots on your car/truck windshield? Ordinary household vinegar! Use it just like you would glass cleaner. It'll take those "etchings" right out!

Shine your car/truck: Many vehicles have lots of black "plastic" around the fenders, etc. An old trick I learned from a guy that detailed cars was to spray some "tire shine" on a rag and wipe those areas down. They shine up like crazy with that! It's awesome!

There's a few of my favorites . . . what are yours?

Julie

If you happen to splash through some wet concrete and it stays and dries on your car, use lime away to remove it.
Raw aluminum will shine with regular flour and some elbow grease.
Spraying Pam cooking spray under your mowing deck will help prevent grass buildup under your mower deck.

Another thing to clean PATENT LEATHER shoes and make then shine is rubbing them with a potato.. cut a potato in half and rub the shoes with the white part of the potato.. then buff the shoes with a soft cloth.

For sore throat... mix honey and lemon juice together and warm .. then give a teaspoon per dose as needed ... some folks also add a little bit of booze to it to make you sleepy ...

Stop buying that expensive "Body Wash" and use the same shampoo that you wash your hair with to wash your whole body..I've been doing that for over forty years.. works just as good as that so-called body wash stuff and is whole lot cheaper..

Stop buying "Bar" soaps... use liquid soap ... Bar soap is made with things that will solidify and stick to the sides of the drain pipes and the walls of the RV's holding tanks...

This sticky residue makes stuff like hair, dirt, skin cells, etc... stick to the walls of the drain pipes which is the cause of many clogged pipes and is what makes that awful stink.

Stop buying single-ply toilet paper.. it cost 4 times more than two-ply.. and will NOT harm your RV's sewer system.

When shopping, look for the "Day Old" counter where yesterday's breads and rolls are and look for "Dated" meats that are close to the expiration date and have been marked down in price...
Both of these can be frozen and used later..

I have to laugh when I hear people say that they would never buy "Stale" bread...
I ask them ..."Do you buy a fresh loaf of bread every morning and throw it away every night.. or do you keep a loaf of bread until it is used up before you buy another loaf.."

I always get a "Blank Stare" from them while they think about what I asked..... some people... sheeezeeee....

TWO CENTS WORTH
The story goes that a man died and was approached by the Devil who told him that he could buy his soul back for a dollar. The man searched his pockets and could only come up with 98 cent. While begging the Devil to forget the two cent he was short, an Angel happened by and hearing the Devil laughing, asked the man, "Would you mind if I put in my two cents ?" The Devil got so mad that he exploded in a puff of smoke and the man's soul was saved.
The moral: Sometimes putting in your two cents worth makes a difference.

and here are a few more that I personally use and they save lots of money, time and work..
****************************************************************************

Buy 5 or 6 pounds of bacon and/or Breakfast link sausages when they are on sale and cook all of it at the same time.. then freeze in paper towel lined quart/gallon size baggies...

saves time and saves work by ...

** not having to shop every week and pay regular price,
** not smelling up the house every morning,
** not having to clean up grease splatter every morning

I cook my bacon and sausage links in the oven ..(350 degrees).. using the "Broiler" pan that came with the stove... it holds about 20 slices of thick-cut bacon ..(folded over).... or about 40 little breakfast sausages..

Drain on a wire cooling rack sitting on top of several layers of newspaper to catch the grease.

here is a time saving tip...

fold the bacon strips in half... you can get twice as many pieces of bacon in the pan... it saves time and who cares if the bacon is folded over or laying out straight .. bacon is bacon..
*****************************************************************

Potatoes starting to shrivel up and sprout...?? ... don't throw them away... they cost money. !!

Peel and cut up.. boil with a little salt, pepper, chopped onion and a big spoon full of butter/margarine, until potatoes are "Almost" done but still firm... then freeze in "serving size" baggies.

Serving size baggies for ONE person ..use the "Snack" size baggie
Serving size baggies for TWO or more people .. use the "Sandwich" size or "Quart" size baggies..

These small bags can be stuffed into the corners of your freezer where other things won't fit.. and are ready to "Heat-n-Serve" in the microwave.. or dump into a frying pan with your eggs for a quick and delicious breakfast..

Thirty years in the restaurant business has taught me a lot of shortcuts and ways to save money..

John

My folks used to dose us with white kerosene and honey... it is a wonder we're alive.

Just a spoonfull of honey is great for cough, sore throat etc. Works great. I sometimes use hot tea with a LOT of honey for a nice soothing drink. A little rum is nice too LOL!

Salt water (sea salt, no iodine) is a good ingredient for sore throats, nasal washes, etc.

Mint Listerine works well as a pain killer and healer of canker sores.
Also... I discovered that Mint Listerine ( I use the WMT Equate brand) makes a great TOILET BOWL swish!!! Cleans, disinfects and oh so minty fresh!!!

A mixture of vinegar and baking soda is a good rinse for canker sore in your mouth or "lie" bumps on your tongue. (This will "boil" up when you mix it so be sure and use a large enough glass that it won't run over!)

For lint free rags for window cleaning with no streaks, wad up a newspaper and unwad it a couple of times to make it a little softer and use the vineger and wash car or house windows.

When I was a kid we were always getting splinters and stickers in our feet and hands. Nobody wore shoes in the summer. If they couldn't dig them out with a neddle they would take the yellow of an egg and mix a lot of salt in it. Place it on the sticker and a bandage over it. Many times it would come out on its own overnight. I'm not sure how it worked but I think it speeded up the infection process lostening up the tissue where it relaxed around the sticker. After it was out a little monkey blood (mecuracrome, sp) and you were good to go.
