I suggest that you unplug before running the generator.
Yes it is safe to run both at the same time, but I suggest that you unplug in case something does not transfer correctly.
The transfer switch is supposed to transfer from shore power to generator power without any of the wires remaining connected to the other position. Only if there is a problem will something happen.
Thanks, For the come back. I don't see any need to run the two together. just wondering if it could be done. I'm not up to speed on the install of gensets and what is involved. Bought the 5er from my B-in-L. The set was in it already. Didn't know how it wired in the coach. Transfer switches, etc. Can't use the added input power anyway. Other factors to numerous to mention, come to mind, when you think about it.
If it's set up properly, it will either have a transfer switch or you unplug from shore power and plug into the generator. Either way you can't be connected to both at once.
If they did somehow get tied together it would destroy the generator.

Exactly although I'd be more worried about the appliances connected to the power and possible backfeed into the power grid.
Dave is correct. Your choice is A or B-- IMPOSSIBLE to use both shore and generator at the same time.
And you do need to find out how the generator is wired to the trailer. It will either have an ATS (Automatic Transfer Switch) or manual plug. Just follow the wire from the generator and you will find out.
