Hi, has anyone heard of an electricl heating unit that you can install in the propane water heater so you don't have to use propane if you are hooked up to AC?

Thanks

There is a kit that contains a electric heating element that mounts through the drain hole and the kit contains the control circuitry. Think on manufacturer call it "Hotrod"

Hi rodgtcmi,

Recovery time will be slow--but it is a great way to save on propane. They only draw 400 watts. That's not very many BTU's compared to what the propane heater puts out in the water heater.

I had a hotrodd (I think that was how it was spelled)installed in a class A I had back in 1997. Still works great today! I know the folks I sold the coach to.

I would NOT install one in a Suburban water heater, as you must remove the anode to do it, which will drastically shorten the tank life.
I'm not too thrilled with them for Atwood either.
