Hi,

I just bought an Old hensley hitch cira 1994 model Elimnator. I didn't do my homework at all. Bought it from Ebay 6 hrs away in MI. It is missing the front part that goes into the truck hitch. I have not picked it up as of yet.

TV 2005 Tacoma v6, TT Passport 19.5 ~4000k dry, Tow person is inexperienced. I tow ~8k miles year. Currently have no sway hitch. The trailer does have 2 propane tanks on front and battery.

I do have a friend/welder/engineer/crafty person. Not sure if he could build one of these "missing front hitch parts".

Just looking for some thoughts; good and bad.

Heres the Ebay Link /w Pics=

Hensley is famous for their customer service, give them a call for a owners manual and parts list, I'm sure they can get you on the road properly set up!

You might also contact the Airstream Owners Club, as the Airstream Owners often use the Hensley and have a lot of years experience with them!

Just call Hensley Mfg. They can get you set up with the right "hitch bar" (what you are missing), probably a manual and a spare parts kit as well. They will tell how to properly measure to get the right hitch bar. Also, depending on the design of the trailer frame,(type of frame bar) you may or may not be getting the right brackets that attach the weight distribution bars/jacks to the trailer. Customer service is great there. One last thing comes to mind, and that would be the rating on the weight distribution bars. Check with them to make sure yours are adequate. Hope you got a good deal on the hitch. Once you have it up and running, you'll be glad you did it.

Just called them, they said this Eliminator is not part of the Hensley company. It was before they bought the design. They can't help.

It is missing the receiver to the truck only and well probably papers.

I will get it and have my friend look into it, rebuild it etc...if possible.

Just may be more school of hard knox for me:-(

Did they happen to say how the "Eliminator" and the "Arrow" differ in design? The "Eliminator" was designed by Jim Hensley and was the first patent of what is now called the Hensley "Arrow". I would think the two are probably not that much different. I beleive Jim Hensley is still alive and well with a company called "Pro pride" That might be another source of help. Good luck and keep us posted on your progress.

I will keep asking. I found a 2"x2" receiver part a guy has he will sell. It was bought few years back. He needed a drop type so does not need this one..

I am thinking just get it and I can modify it if needed. He say the pics of the Eliminator and said it looks the same from the pics.

Here is the pics if you want look:

Looks almost identical to my HA. I'll bet money a Hensley hitch bar will work with it. When I bought mine used it had a 4" drop bar, after measuring (downloaded the manual) I figured out I needed a 2" drop bar. It was $200, I looked into making one (it is solid 2" square bar) but the material cost was so high that buying one wasn't that much more.

Yeah, looks identical to all that I have seen including mine except for the Hensley Orange paint...

I assume you also received the struts, w/d bars, crank-up towers, and strut brackets??? I see the U-bolts for mounting the brackets but don't really see the rest of the items mentioned...

The hitch bar that you are missing is not complicated but the one offered by the person responding to the auction for $100 is a good deal. Even one purchased from Hensley at $200 would be worth it. Before going this route I would read through the Owner's Manual, available online at ...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=360205235028&viewitem=&sspagename=STRKEWNX:IT#ht_500wt_1182

The manual will provide instructions on how to determine what size hitch bar you will need. You can also determine what parts are missing if any. It looks like everything is there except for the hitch bar, latch pins and bolts for mounting the frame brackets.

Good luck!
