I bought a used 1989 Mobil Travel 28 foot RV. I just found out that it needs new tires. This is the first time that I have had to buy tires. I'm not sure what "rating" of tires to buy. Do I buy "D" rating. Very confusing. Ok, very very confusing.
Anyone have any advise?

Somewhere on your MH there should be a sticker that states what size tires it requires. That is the best way to be sure you get the right ones.

If you want to start from scratch, first get the thing weighed, with separate weights for each axle. Then download the specification charts from Michelin or which ever tire company you are going with and see what load range is required to carry your weight. You will also need to know what size rims you have (diameter and width) and how much pressure they are rated for.

It will be a lot easier just to find the sticker.

Read the information off the tires on there now and your tire dealer should be able to tell you what the rating is for those. Also you can contact the manufacturer of the MH.

Thanks everyone for all the information about tires and sizes.

We take our first real road trip next Thursday. I'm assuming that my new tires will be able to take me where ever we need to go!

Door post will tell you tire size to handle the GVWR of your vehicle.

That vintage, the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating would have been in the range that used Load Range D tires. You need at least that rating, and Load Range E will also work, and might be easier to find, depending on the size.

My 28' came with "D" and I had multiple failures. I moved up to "E". Weigh the rig. If it's even close to max I'd go with the "E".
