At home I have Dish With the DVR and I can hook a hard drive to it a record to it. Can I get another receiver and put it in the Motorhome plug the hard drive init and watch. I do not want the full dish hookup, only the use of things we have recorded. Hope this makes sense

I dont believe so, the hard drive is linked to that receiver.. part of the info is on the original drive the bulk on the external drive and they are linked together . .. They dont want you "stealing' content and you could do that if you could move the drive. But Ive only been told this not tried it myself so maybe someone has tried it..... just unplug the receiver and drive and take them with you.

Don't see why you can't. We have watched things we have recorded on the Dish DVR when we haven't hooked up with no problems. You just have to fool the receiver when it goes thru its setup

Yes, an external HD will work with another Dish DVR. We just did this on our last trip. I have an external HD connected to the DVR in the living room. I took another DVR from the den and put it in the RV for the trip. Info about the external HD option is located HERE.

I use stand alone DVR's with assorted receivers as input they work great, however the ReplayTV network I have is no longer marketed.. This system is simular to TiVo Series 3 (In fact it's what they copied when making the S-3) in that I can put a DVR on each of my TV's and record as many programs as I have DVR's.. And then watch the recorded show on any of the TV's in the net, or download to computer and watch "portable"... I can also watch a show AS IT IS RECORDING on the "host" dvr (the one that records it) Replay does it differently than TiVo though (Better in my not very humble opinion)
The DISH DVR should play a recorded show w/o the antenna attached. though you may have to wait a while for it to realize there is no antenna and give you the option.. I forget how to convince it to work.
One thing I did like about the Dish DVR is that it's dual in-dual out so it worked much like my Replay network.. Only without the OTA option.
Nothin adds excitment like something that is none of your business

Correction to my earlier post - it may not work. Mine was working while I had a satellite signal. Today with no signal, it shows an error message that it needs the HD connection authorized before accessing the HD.

Why would you need to plug the hard drive into another receiver?.. Oh. You have the DVR at home..
Basically no.. However I think Dish does have a portable unit you can connect to the receiver and transfer shows to.. (Either that or Direct Does for theirs)
Comment: I have used both Dish and DirecTV DVR's and frankly I'm very impressed by the Dish Network unit. I feel it is the best on the market.. Dual input and DUAL OUTPUT allows me to watch one show while wife watches another.
and the user interface is very close to the Replay TV (In fact based upon it, EchoStar got sued by Replay, and later by TiVo which is not nearly as good) and the antenna pointing software is as good as a BirdDog (It don't get better)
However if you have a DOME type antenna.... DirecTV works better with domes. (NON-HD only though)

one thing about that Dish ad puzzles me. the part where they say you can start watching it in one room and then go to bed and watch it in another. I have three TVs linked up with splitters etc. to my one old style receiver, and can move around among all three of them. how does that differ from their statement about start watching on one and finish on another? I understand your difference with being able to watch two different shows however which I obviously can't do.
