Twice now me & my wife went to look at new campers either another bumper pull or fifth wheel two different dealers ... Both times we were greeted acknowledged by several salesman seemed real friendly at first until they asked for our names so we gave them only our first names...1/2 hr later after looking at what we wanted to look at the question came up 'What are your names" once again we replied back with just our first names not good enough we need first and last.We replied back we do not want to give our last names out at that moment in time. (nothing to hide we just like our privacy) at that moment the sales persons made a comment well I am finished with you and left on the first occasion he left on his golf cart & we had to walk back our self's How rude

I don't know...perhaps they have to log customer interactions in order to get credit of some sort? Still, it's no excuse for being rude.

When we were looking at trading the vehicles in for one that was 4 down towable we kept getting asked for last names and phone numbers. One got so insistant that we said "If you ask one more time we will walk out" they pulled back and stopped insistanting for it.

Or, you could give a fake name just to keep them happy.

I believe the reason the sales people ask for names is that if they spend quite a bit of time with a customer, they would like to share in any commission from a sale.
A prospective buyer could well take up a good share of the sales persons time today,go back tomorrow, and make the purchase thru a different person. Then who gets the commission? The second guy, when the first person actually did the selling and spent the time with the customer.
If he gets you name upfront, and someone else closes the sale the commission can be split, but if he/she does not have any way to identify you...there goes the commission.
And,no I am not a sales person.

This is common practice they will log the name, date and may even put notes at to what units you talked about or were shown. If the name comes up on the sold board they may be able to get a cut of the commission. I don't see the big deal. I have never been ashamed of my name. That being said to each there own.

I agree that many places will ask for names, to keep a record for the salespeople. I'm a bit surprised that they didn't ask for more information. I've seen the same procedures at car dealerships,so don't really see anything wrong with this practice.....
..other than the outlandishly rude behavior by these particular sales people. I would write a note to the Dealership Owner....give him a piece of my mind, and that is all....none of my money would ever go there!!
They should be happy to get your letter.....assuming you sign it with your full name
