We will be leaving our winter home in late March and slowly making our way back to our cabin to get ready for morel mushroom hunting in southern IL (Hardin area). We would like to travel via norther Louisiana and Arkansas. Any state park/RV parks recommended???
Poverty Point State Park near Delhi, LA is nice. I was there for a couple weeks late last Fall. They have mostly w/e/s and some w/e with a few HUGE w/e pull thrus.
I was also pleasantly surprised when I unexpectedly ended up at Woolly Hollow State Park near Greenbriar, AR with an equipment problem. The whole place has been recently refurbished and a new loop added. They've got e/w/s, a nice system of hiking trails and nearly new bath house. Sites are paved, level and decent sized. The staff was great while I sorted out my problems.
Almost all of the State Parks in AR are great but my two favorites are Petit Jean SP near Morrilton, AR (exit 105 off of I40) and Mount Magazine SP near Paris, AR. Petit Jean has some great hiking trails, one going to a waterfall of 100'. Mount Magazine is very remote but has a wooded FHU campground, hiking trails and a beautiful lodge with a great restaurant and pool. Lake Catherine SP near Hot Springs, AR is another great park.
