Thats what we do as well, stay at Fort W. and then go to universal from there.

Bill Fredericks (City of Orlando) Park is the nicest in the area. Going in and out of Ft. Wilderness is a pain, plus it's costly. You will not be disappointed in Fredricks!

Thanks, I didn't realize Fort Wilderness was only a 20 minute drive from Universal. Fort wilderness it is....

OP asked about a "resort type" CG.

Having lived in Orlando for 40+ years, I have never heard anyone call Fredrick a "resort".

1st. choice by far is Fort Wilderness
2nd choice is Tropical Palms, a really decent campground to stay.
never stayed at Fredricks so I can't comment on that. I'm going to look on their website though.
