I think the Red wood is one of the best looking campers on the road. The Black wood looked cheap to me. I believe the Redwood has the same gaurentee as crossroads. A very good one. I hope your problems are all solved.

Sorry for your issues - I'm pleased to read in a follow-up that Redwood has reached out to you for the issues.

When I wrote a question to the company I quickly received a personal response from a manager with Redwood. If I were to consider a upper-level unit I would seriously consider Redwood given the managements long history with other premium brands, the 2+5 warranty, and the feedback from most owners.

IMO it sounds lke it did freeze. All it takes is a freezing temp to freeze and you have some dealer issues.
We do not have a redwood but have considered one and they look like a good quality 5th wheel.

X3 - Did you use it in Montana or was it still winterized from the factory. It only takes one freeze to freeze, and plugging it in doesn't do much unless you have electric heat. That doesn't help the levelers or the roof, but might answer some of the sink issues. Better check the rest of it.

I am curious did you winterise your redwood, you said it rarely freezes but that meens it can and does freeze that could very well be part of your lakes under the sinks, have you checked to see if the waterlines are tight at the faucets, it is not uncommon for them to become lose and need to be tightened after the first few uses? As to the roof leak you did not give much info on this is it leaking only when the slide is out or is it in the main room of the bed room? The damaged trim is an issue for your dealer s you have said. Other than this forum you you must have had other sources of information to help you decide on the redwood and it must have been good info , no one purchases a 80000.00 plus RV on bad reviews.
On another note not related to the quote above I my self have a redwood on order and do not appreciate all the negitive responses from people who have a beef with a company they no nothing about.

I have been living in this region of California for almost 60 years. I know what cold weather can do to pipes. I drained the lines and disconnected the water, even my freshwater connection is underground. The rig was winterized though not really necessary with empty lines and tanks. I have been fixing the leaks, which are a little baffling since it has just been sitting in a sheltered area next to the house in California. I even checked for signs of mice, which can be a problem, but the rig was clear, and since there was not water in the lines anyway, no reason to gnaw. I have a pressure regulator on the fresh water line as well. This is our fifth rig. We have lived almost 3 of our 30 years together in fifth wheels or motorhomes so we kind of know the score. In all our rigs we never had roof leaks (until now). Why the plumbing leaks cropped up is baffling but poor design/labor seems likely as the leaks didn't show up in our first and only trip from Montana where we bought. Certainly could have shaken loose (it happens), but the rig has been sitting empty since then. The damage to trim was probably done at the dealer. The leaking levelers and jammed grey water valve can only be poor construction or installation.

We didn't have as much info when we bought the rig as they were fairly new. The issues with Thor and Lippert didn't concern me as much as others on the forum but the cheap tires on such a heavy and supposedly high end rig did. Still the E tires got me home okay. Before our next trip, I plan to upgrade the tires to heavier sidewalls, etc.

Problems aside, the rig is quite beautiful and comfortable. I like the higher rated insulation, and in milder climates often only need the electric fireplace to keep the living area comfortable. The LR furniture is not as comfy or roomy as a big fellow would like, but adequate. Again maybe not nice enough for such an expensive rig, but nice.

Until I came home to so many problems, I was satisfied with the rig. I don't want to alarm new buyers - I did buy the rig intending it to be used for our California headquarters as we are selling our little ranch with our ranch house on it. More research has made me realize though, that if we were going to travel more, rather than just settle in Montana, I might have been better off with an Excel or a New Horizons. They are both beautiful, well-built rigs, but very heavy and I don't particular want to drive a heavier truck than my F350 (no dualies). So there you have it. Right now is probably not the best time to ask me about Redwood, but if you are satisfied with your research and it fits the bill, buy it (get upgraded tires though). I would look at shorter models of other manufacturers, even used Nuwas and Carriages first though, if weight is an issue. I have to admit, coming to the end of week 3 living in it, it is a pretty comfortable rig.

One last question. We may be using it up in Montana next winter. Has anyone had any experience with their Redwood in cold country?

We were staying in the Grizzly RV park in October with our future daughter-in-law - don't remember exact dates, but early-middle I think.

What rig did you have? At that time the only problems were a small leak in one of the leveler rams and a loose joint in the drain under the galley sink, which I fixed.

And, yes, I too think the rig looks good. I like the lighter weight than the fancier lines too. Got good diesel mileage with my new Ford F-350 and had power to pass just about any vehicle pulling up into the passes.

We were in the Hitchhiker, and you had told us you were moving to a small ranch and had raised sheep. Sorry the fiver is giving you problems. We are looking at a new unit and looked at the Redwood, but they did not reccomend it for dry camping. We are going to Alaska so we needed to have a way to haul water. Redwood would not reccomend this. Hope everythig goes well.

I remember you folks. You were sort of across from us on the same side as the showers, I believe. I already fixed the leaks under the sinks, but the roof leak and the fluid leaking from the levelers is a bit annoying. I could probably fix the valve too, but really, why do I have to?

Why and what did Redwood say exactly? No dry camping or don't take the rig to Alaska?

On a happier note, isn't West Yellowstone nice in the late fall?

They said that no fiver was made to fill with water and tow.We have filled our Hitchhiker for 7 years and never had a problem. As far a Alaska they said to tow with just enough water for the toilet, then fill when you get where you are going. Sometine we could be possible stopping before we may have found water. The wife would not like that.
