We towed an E1 PUP with our 06 liberty. It towed well, but again a 10' box PUP. I believe I warped the brake rotors twice, and we have brakes on the PUP. The PUP Is around 2200-2500lbs dry. Going down the mountain passes would make me pucker a bit. I can't imagine towing a 20+ foot trailer with my liberty.
Then we got the Tundra, and oh happy days.

Only if you have an anti-sway hitch. Reese Dual Cam, Equal-i-zer, or the new Anderson No-Sway should do the job. I towed a 23' Rockwood with my Mountaineer for a couple of years with an Equal-i-zer, and there was no sway. Felt quite squirrely without the sway control, though. My only big problem was tongue weight.
I will say that I enjoy towing a smaller TT more... one that doesn't need sway control. My current TT is only 16'.

I tow a 4000# gvw 18' HTT with my liberty and it tows it like a dream. I have even got over 15mpg while towing from CT to DE. I do not even worry when passed by trucks or buses. As for braking on a down hill that is why you have trailer brakes. Set it up right and let the engine do the work and it tows just fine. It is rated at 5000# with tow package.

My wife has an 06 Liberty (turbo diesel), I've pulled some heavy trailers with it and it did well. Wheel base? Have you ever noticed a tractor trailer? The wheelbase on the tractor compared to the length of the trailer? The liberty has a harsh ride, if anything, I find that the extra weight helps cushion the ride.
Why not take the trailer on a test trive tow before you buy it to see how it feels to you?

You can't compare a bumper pull (TV and TT) to that of a fifth wheel pull (tractor trailer)...

DOn't do it. THIS IS THE BEST ADVICE SOMEONE IN YOUR POSITION WILL EVER GET: (and I wish I had heeded it) Ready?
Forget your tow vehicle. Go out and find your PERFECT, DREAM trailer now and buy it. Then go out and find a vehicle to tow it. Older 1/2 and 3/4 ton gas trucks and SUV's are cheap-cheap-cheap right now. And you won't put all the wear and tear on your Liberty. Buy your second RV first. You WILL NOT regret it!

I've owned two Grand Cherokees and currently have a 1 gen Liberty. I towed with the Grands but not the Libby.
I towed 26' 4200 lb TT with the V8 Grand. It was about as big as it could handle. It did tow a 10' PUP without issue though.
I think if was picking a trailer for my Libby, it would be no more than 20' and very light. I big PUP would probably be best.

What you "CAN" tow , and what you "SHOULD" tow are 2 different things. Don't do it.

i've got a 2005 liberty and never considered towing anything with it. that's why i have a truck. if i had to tow with it, small pop-up, small boat, or small utility trailer would be all i would try.

There is a little more weight to the front end of highway tractor than a little liberty.
