We stopped to do laundry just before arriving at Cherry Creek State Park outside of Denver. Since I had time to kill in their large parking lot, I unhooked the tow car there, then had DW follow me to the entrance to the park.
Turns out, Colorado State Parks charge a daily fee per vehicle-- but the fee is waived for towed vehicles. They wouldn't waive it for our car, though, because we weren't towing it. Since we were staying for a week, the difference in price wasn't trivial-- but after some discussion, it became clear that if the car wasn't towed across the line adjacent to the pay booth, they were going to charge me the extra fee.
So (after apologizing to the drivers in line behind me for the delay) I hooked up the car, towed it (running, with DW still behind the wheel) past the designated line, then unhooked it on the other side. Talking to hosts and rangers about the incident later, not a single one seemed to think this was the slightest bit unreasonable.
That's ridiculous. Sounds like someone made a formal rule becuase of some past situation, and now everyone has to abide by it, to the letter.
2003 Country Coach Intrigue, Cummins ISL 400
Toad: 2006 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited (LJ) toad, with just a few mods...
Other rig: 2005 Chevy Silverado 3500 Duramax Dually / Next Level 38CK Fifth-wheel Toy Hauler w/ quads, sand rail, etc...
Think simplicity at the bridge: Count the axles and charge. It generally works as the more axles a truck has the more weight etc. Many trucks and a few RVs. No exceptions or decisions for a toad.
But CGs? Toad or not - same price. Oh extra vehicle more $.

Hard to believe, but this was actually an improvement over the policy in place on our previous visit to the park: at that time, all motorhomes with toads had to pay an additional daily fee for the towed car. Ie, RVer's with trailers or fifth wheels paid only one daily fee, but motorhomes with tow cars paid two.
They apparently saw the lack of logic in that, so instituted the waivers for towed cars-- but only if they were actually under tow upon arrival, no exceptions.

I guess when you hire office staff who are incapable of making an intelligent judgement call, you have to give them a hard rule to follow, such as "If it's not it tow when it comes across that line, you must pay a fee. No exceptions."
Amazed? Come to New York City and enjoy our bridge tolls...
Amazing AND awesome....At the same time!!!
