And to be "FAIR" take the turbos off of the Ecoboost.

???

The turbos are just as much an integral part of the ecoboost as the back two cylinders of a V8 or the turbos of the current diesels so that comment makes no sense at all.

To be "FAIR take the back two cylinders off the V8s.

Sounds like real intelligence. ???

How many years have they been turbocharging the Cobra? Didn't they have a turbo V6 Cobra II in the 70's? I do recall the mid 70's Cobra II 302 was a bad boy for that era.

It was a 4 banger. A 2.3, and it was a disaster.

Not too bad of HP for the time but it had about a 4 inch diameter bundle of smog hoses. When they started to get old and crack it was a nightmare engine.

SVO Mustang, 84 thru 86. Same engine went into the Turbocoupe Thunderbird to 1988. Ford actually started turbocharging the 2.3 liter in the late 70's, later adding intercoolers. By the time the SVO arrived in 84, the 2.3 turbo was far from a disaster, and to this day enjoys a loyal following.

Point being turbo's in a Ford is not a new thing.
I'm a 2.3 fan myself but never owned a 2.3 turbo.

One could say the same thing before the GM 5.7 diesel came off the line.
Or one could say the same thing before the Nav 6.0 came out.

Look at how those two turned out. Just because a company builds things for many years does not mean they can do it right at any given time. Dodge built many, many, many transmissions, and then they came out with the A604........need I say more?

As with anything; sometimes the beta testers come out real good and sometimes they end up with a Vega.

I'm notloyal to any brand of truck, I learned that from all of the Dodges I've owned, so I'll wait about 4-5 years and see if they hold up. I'm sure that the one in Fords video wasn't taken directly off the line, my guess is that it was prepped so everything was as perfect as possible.

Not likely that they blatently lied, the vid specifically states it was randomly pulled from the line...But, I wouldn't be surprised if they had already done similar torture tests on other Eco's during early testing, and had a pretty good idea of what the engine was capable of handling. They even show it running down the assembly line with all the accessories being installed on it.

I'd be happy to jump on the EcoBoost bandwagon, but I'm afraid that little feller would have a hard time pulling the bandwagon safely.

LOL not sure about that "loyal following" but I did have a 85 SVO which ran really well. Speedo was 160 IIRC and came close a couple of times allegedly I usually got beat or tracked down by CHP with 5.0's but it was a fun car for a couple of years. Don't think it would have towed much more than pop up.

I believe that it came off the line like they said, but I'll bet that it was prepped to make sure it was at it's peak performance. And I don't doubt that the whole time it was running these "tests" that it was mother henned by all sorts of Fords best techs making sure it stayed at it's peak, but I think any of the other companies would do the same.
