We have had our mailing address as the UPS store in Rapid City since 2001 and have never had a problem renewing our DL's. Until now - because of the new rules DH has a problem. He wanted to keep his CDL from WI back in 2001 so one of the owner's suggested DH use their home address instead, which he did (so it's not the PMB address). I'm not sure who to ask questions of first (UPS store or DMV) - so I'm asking my fellow full-timers first: does anyone here have a SD CDL and renewed their DL recently? What did you have to do? His birthday is within the next two weeks. Thanks much.

Why do you need a CDL for your RV? Are you running a business or something. Just want to make sure I'm not missing something...

Probably wants to keep it for the same reason I keep mine. At some point in life we may want to take a job where having one is required, and not having to go through the intense testing again to get one. Gary

You don't need a CDL to drive your RV, however you do need a license for the weight class of the RV and if it has AIR BRAKES, an air brake endorsement.

Perhaps in your state, not in South Dakota.

Don't need one for the RV. Our son had a trucking company - until the economy tanked and DH wanted to keep his CDL in case he was needed to drive.

And thanks to Old-Biscuit - I'll be checking those links out. Hope that answers all our questions!

What a GREAT GROUP OF PEOPLE!!!

For my CDL I used the PMB address as my mailing address for the CDL and when I stayed the night before in a hotel, I used that physical address and receipt for the CDL. DMV accepted that as no mail will ever go there and it proved that I stayed in SD.

Full timing isn't "always camping". It's a different life style living in an RV.

This is what the lady at the SD DMV told us to do. It doesn't make sense to me that a DL is a form of ID, but the address doesn't have to be right?!?! Oh well, that's what he's going to do. Thanks again to all.
