On the site I use to look up CG's, it only shows Wilmington KOA and Carolina Beach Family CG. The latter doesn't look so hot in the pics and I think I may have been by it years ago near Kure Beach and if that's the one, it looked sketchy.

The Wilmington KOA is the only one near Wilmington. There is another campground out on Route 210 just before you cross over to Topsail Island which is about 40 minutes from Wilmington but cant think of the name of the campground.

I was just getting ready to say we would look at Topsail as well. They show the following: Surf City Family CG, Topsail Sound RV Park, Pinewood CG, Laniers, and Virginia Creek.

I had to go out to the truck to find the paper on the campground. It was Laniers. There were a lot of seasonals but they also had other sites for travelers. We stopped in back during easter week when we were in hampstead visiting my mom and dad. If you go to Laniers web site, the travelers sites are to the right of the pool in the picture on the home page.

Yes, I found them. I also found Topsail Sound RV Park, it is more of a very nice and new looking permanent place, but they have 6 overnight sites. $35 a night. Virginia Creek is permanent.

We stayed at the Wilminton KOA a couple of years back. It was very nice, only problem we had was the dusty roads. It was very dry the time we were there and the dust was pretty bad. Otherwise, very friendly office staff, nice sites and easy for day-tripping.

If you are military, there's the Air Force rec facility at Ft. Fisher. Otherwise, Wilmington KOA is probably your best bet for an RV park. With the ridiculous spike in land prices, there will not likely ever be a decent RV park near Kure Beach or Carolina Beach (aka "Pleasure Island"). And to think, when I was a kid living in Kure Beach, people used to remark how CHEAP it was there!

Agree. Pleasure Island, ain't near what it use to be. Only thing theyb got going for them now, Is Britt's.

As for CGS in the area. Have heard nothing good about Carolina Beach CG. IF you like state parks. Carolina Beach State park is real nice. Of course, there are no hookups.

As for Top Sail. There is Blackbeard's, Lanier's, and Surf city. Surf City is the only one on the beach. We love it. However, IF you are looking for huge sites, a pool or anything like that. It is not for you. they have a place to put the camper, and a beach. It's a great beach. But it is all that is there.

Also there is Shalotte KOA. South of Wilmington
