We just purchased a truck, but have not chosen the camper yet. Are there any potential problems with me buying a set of heavy duty Torklift tie downs before identifying the camper I intend to use? The truck is a 3500 diesel dually, and it appears the only two factors in choosing the system are truck characteristics and weight of the camper.

You buy the tie downs for the truck then you can use them on all modern campers.

Yes buy your torklift tie downs to fit your truck. They will work on your camper.

Thank you all. I thought that to be the case, but wanted no surprises lol. Figured if I installed the tie downs now, I'd be ready when I found the right camper.

If you know the likely brand of camper you can get the truck pre-wired for the connection. Makes it a lot easier if you buy from a private party.

What if the seller has a set of tiedowns to go with the camper? Then you will have two sets.

If the seller has tiedowns how practical is it to buy the camper and then install the tiedowns and then drive back to pick up the camper? Most of the used campers where I live are a 4-8 hour drive each way and I am not about to do that twice.
And that is assuming that the seller has the same model truck as I do so that they will fit my truck and with Torklift tiedowns even the ones that were supposed to fit my 2011 truck required a lot of cutting and trimming to get them to bolt on properly to the frame. I needed a bench vise, power hack saw, and a right angle grinder to get the Torklift tiedowns mounted on my Chevy.

You should probably also think about taking your tailgate off in advance, too.
