Question, why are you replacing them so often? Is it the product or are you hitting them on something?

Yes, the sun will " do in" the non uv stable plastics in short order,, simple solution I've starting doing,,,,, whenever I replace one of those items like a vent cap, I now give a coat of the new "fusion" paint by Krylon,, adds years to the life, blocks the uv rays. Same for my propane tank cover when it become non cleanable, works great

I found a metal one in the trash... after a little modification...
The plastic cap had disintegrated, and I temporarily put a tin can over the remainder.

Then I thought.... why not add a little larger can over it, drill some holes, pop rivet the tins together, and for good measure, fix it to the vent with two screws....
No, it's not SS but should last a few years.

BRAVO! Sauerkraut and tuna fish as a plumbing vent cap. What could be more suitable?

Nice fix, but I've wondered why we even need them on RV's, never had one on a house.

Because a holding tank is a closed system, in which sewage gases can build up. Without a vent stack to provide an escape route for the sewage gases the only other place for the gases to escape is right up the neck of the toilet when you step on the flush handle. The vent stack prevents the toilet from burping a nasty fart bubble back into the coach when you flush.
