For years we had Dish, where we could go from town to town and simply call up with the new address of the park we were in and I would then get the local channels. after giving up with the cust. service of Dish I called Direct and they told me we could do the same, however after the switch we were told we had to pay $15.00 extra per month and would only get east coast or west coast channels, they would not allow me to call up with each new address, telling me it was a rule of the FCC. So I contacted the FCC and found out some interesting rules.
if you are paying these extra fee's or can not get local channels here is how it works and how to get them FREE and get the locals, no more this east/west coast crap. the rules read as the following.
1)if your dish is perm.attached to the RV
2)if you take all of the rec. box's from the house and use them in the rig then that is all you need to do.
however if you have 3 box's and only bring two, then it is not legal. if you follow the 2 steps above, you are in fact using your RV as your Home, therefore they MUST give you the same channels as your contract reads for your stick built house. once I told Direct that my Satellite is Perm. attach and that ALL my box's are in my rig, they then agreed that I outsmarted them, and now I call from city to city and I get the local channels for free...NO MORE $15.00 extra per month. I pass this info on to everyone so if your having the same issue I had that this might help. if you have any questions feel free to email and I'll try to help further. good luck and safe travels

Thanks for the info. Do you think Dish will believe me if I tell them I put all five receivers in the moho?

I wish I had the kind of rig that would need that many.

Since our rig IS our HOME I guess I'm stuck paying the $15 bucks...on second thought, I think that's worth it not having to call Direct every time we move locations.....too much aggravation IMHO....Dennis

Where do you get the $15 fee? Is it because you have a home & an RV? We only have the Rv and pay $5 extra per month for local channels. Wherever I park, Olympia, WA....Ouray, CO....Victor, Idaho...I call Directv, give them my new service address + zip code and I get the local channels....not east-west coast feeds..something to check into. Been doing this for 7 years now

I am a new DirectTV customer.
I believe you pay the additional fee to take your hometown local channels on the road.
I live in NY.
Baseball, Hockey, Basketball are all part of my local channel line-up. The monthly fee is a small price to pay to "keep it all the same".
If you are just looking for the big networks (NBC,CBS,ABC) you can get them free through an antenna.

You can't always be parked where you will have television reception through your antenna. Getting the network channels, ABC,CBS etc is impossible when you're 300 miles South of Denver, nestled in the mountains...have the local channel option allows you to watch a host of channels even in remote areas.

I tell people to get an RV account, (Forget the house account) use your ground mount RV antenna at home or get one off Craig's list and install it yourself (NOTE: If you use the ground mount then even if you leave a receiver in the house, DISCONNECTED, no law is violated) and pay for the DNS,,
This simply avoids the hassle of calling every time you move.
The problem is house accounts do not (usually) qualify for DNS, DirecTV's offering you DNS on a home account that gets locals at home was, in fact, a violation of the FCC rules on DNS.. They should have required you get an RV account before allowing DNS.
Nothin adds excitment like something that is none of your business
