I mentioned it because this whole setup looks to be pretty new and innovative and I thought it was cool that they enjoy camping and fishing/boating..

As far as I know, you can't tow tandem with a TT as one of the trailers in WA?? I'm not even sure you can with a 5th wheel??

Anyway, I think it's a fine setup and I would hope I'm able to do something like that when I reach their age...

Mitch

Correct no tandem tow in WA.

I saw a setup just like that a few years ago. It looks like a great way to take the toys along. Definitely looks easier to manage than those double tow scenarios.

I suspect he will out grow his need to carry every thing with him. I have seen this type of set up many times. I used to carry a 12 ft Livingston on the top of my truck and the motor in the bed. I do remember once when we were going fishing with my in laws, FIL asked MIL if they had every thing, her reply was if not, SIL will have it.

Use a lot of different ways to haul their toys along here.

Type of Trailer that is common.

There were a lot of those around in the 1970's to early 80's before 5th wheels as trailers were all TT's. I worked for a welding and machine shop just north of Salem Oregon then and we built 8 or 10 of them.. Just used a wench and ramps to get them up and down. A bit simple but did take some planning..

Works just fine...so far!

The rack's all aluminum, so not much weight there. Don't even get me started about the hours and hours of time those two spent with CAD drawings and etc.....there's nothing worse than being hooked up with a couple of underemployed engineers!
The reason I say is because with the truck squatting down so far, it is obviously loaded very heavy on the rear axle. My '98 Ranger only as about 4400 lb GVWR and about 1200 lbs of payload capacity and the rear axle weight rating is only about 3000-ish lbs, if I remember right. I can see that boat, trailer and loading rack together easily exceeding all of the weight ratings of my Ranger.

I don't know why hauling toys has to be so complicated. All you really need is a stump and a couple of tiedowns.

When someone tells you to buy the same rig they own, listen, they might be right. When they tell you to buy a different rig then they own, really pay attention, they probably know something you don't.

Yes, they did roll into Steamboat after we had setup there ourselves.. We saw them come in from our site # 2. Never did see where they ended up however.. It was a really nice setup.
