It seems as though every TT we look at that's in our price range and size has bunks. We don't need them. I know that there are some TTs that have bunks that can be removed or lifted away for bike storage, but we can't find those in our area.
Has anyone ever removed them for other storage? If so, was it a lot of work, and was it worth it? Thanks!

We bought our Outback new. Part of the deal was the dealer would remove the extra bed. We love the extra space, which we made into a BIG closet.

If buying new, negotiate bunks out.

You're probably refering to several models of Jayco which have the MaxiStor cargo area in the rear, with a huge door, and the bunks fold up out of the wall to store stuff...including bikes. Good for hobby area or small computer room, too.
HERE!

We know folks who have removed these floding bunks easily, and replaced them when traveling with grandkids!

Thank you both. It seems easy to do then! I appreciate your responses.

We had 2 bunks in our Forest River Wildwood. I removed the top bunk and made it into a walkin closet; this is one of the best improvements we have made to date!

Removing the bunk was easy; once you pop out the panel under the mattress thre are screws, remove them and the bunk is gone in a matter of a few minutes; I covered the screw holes with trim boards.
