We are heading to Maine, pulling a 35' TT and I really don't want to head up the eastern seaboard through the NJ Turnpike and around that area.

Would it be feasible to take I-81 from Hershey Park, PA (which is one of our stops) to I-84, to I-91 and onto CT 15, which turns into I-84. Mapquest says that it will take me 5 hrs and 50 minutes, but if we go on the NJ Turnpike, it will take us 5 hrs and 42 minutes.

Some of you that know the area, is this a better route or not. I haven't been to the area in 15 years, so I'm just not sure, but think that avoiding the congestion in the NYC Metro area would be the best bet.

I don't quite understand why mapquest is sending you off 84 - it runs from Scranton right to CT, and Ashford is not far off it.

I was wondering the same thing and figured when we got up there, we would probably just run I-84 all the way.

I thought maybe there might be construction or something and that part of I-84 was closed. That's the reason I was posting. Thanks for your quick response, demoon. Is this a better way to go than through the NYC area?

take 84 to 691 east and then 91 north. Just befor Hartford you get back on 84. The bridge you take from 91 to 84 to get over the river is RT 15(for less then a mile). You miss Hartford and the road is much better, and about one mile shorter

Thanks K Charles! I wondered why it was taking me that way. I really don't want to hit a lot of traffic if we can keep from it.

K-Charles is exactly right. I forgot about the 691/91 move that saves going through Hartford itself. In response to your question, without a doubt a better trip other than 84 being pretty rough in PA. We came from Lancaster a couple of weeks ago and I tried 78 to 287 to 87 and then 84 at Newburgh - it seemed to take forever even though the roads were OK and the traffic was not too bad.

I would and do go...81 to 78 to 87 north to 84 east...stay on 84 thru Hartford....it isn't that much of a problem and is all of 10 minutes to get thru.... and a pain in the neck to go around.......in Mass, get on 90 for 2 exits then 290 NE to 495 right to 95 at the Mass/NH state line....rt 15 in Ct is not for trucks or RV's...Chuck

.in Mass, get on 90 for 2 exits then 290 NE.

290 is the first exit off the MA Pike after getting on in Sturbridge (end of 84).

Thanks for all your responses - we really appreciate them, especially about not using Rt 15 with the RV.
