I would like to know about how long a serpentine belt should last before it needed to be replaced. I have 2005 cummins ISB 300hp with 21,000 miles.

I would think about 10 years and replace regardless, but have a spare just in case.

i can't imagine that wouldn't last 8-10 years anyway. How often does the one in your car fail??? Should be comparble.

I don't bother carrying a spare as all it drives is the alternator and AC compressor, both of which I can live without for a period of time.

I change the serpentine every 4 to5 years. It is exposed to a lot of heat under the hood. It's rubber & will dry out & crack.

In my car it lasts about 80,000 to 100,000 miles.

Get a Gates or Dayco belt. The Gatorback is too thin and will not last.

Keep a back up 10 minutes to change one.

Changed one out last year on a camping trip. Opened the motor compartment and the Gatorback was half shredded.
On our 1995 Beaver the belt drives the water pump, cant go far with out it.

Regardless of when you should change the serp. belt, it is imperative that you find the belt routing diagram for your engine. If you can't find the diagram draw one up yourself and/or take a picture now before the belt breaks. After the belt is gone it is real hard to figure out the routing. Just a thought, I drew a diagram for mine.

It is a job and a half to change it on the 3126-E Cat engine. Once I see cracks on the rubber I will take it to Freightliner to change it out. I believe they will have to remove the air cleaner and part of the duct to be able to get to it on mine. That is what is bad about rear radiators.
