Hello all,
When I press the switch to run my slide out or in nothing happens. I have done the following to trouble-shoot the problem:
1. Made sure battery had full charge.
2. Checked voltage coming into switch. The voltmeter showed 12 volts.
3. Checked voltage into motor. Also showed 12 volts.
4. Removed motor and hooked it straight to battery. The motor turned in both directions so I know the motor is good.

I am pretty sure my problem is a grounding issue. Just to see if this would work (keep in mind I am by no means an electrican) I attached a wire from the ground wires behind the switch and grounded it to the frame. Hit the switch and the slide went out. I then spent the better part of 2 hours trying to find where the ground wires were grounded to the frame, but had no luck.

My question is this....what if I spliced into the ground wires at the back of the switch and grounded them to the frame or some other good location just like I tested it but permanment? Does anyone see issues with this?

Thanks in advance for your help,
Mike

Sounds to me (without seeing it) is that there probably is a ground wire running out to your slideout that is broken or not making connection most likely through the coiled wire from opening and closing it (maybe got pinched or worn).

Try grounding the slideout and see if it works if so try run a ground wire out to the slideout as this will also ground your slideout which may or may not be grounded if you just ground the wire in the switch.

Dogbone....I'm not sure that I understand. Are you saying that it needs to be grounded to the slideout frame rather than the main RV frame?

Yes... try connecting a ground wire from the slide out frame to the trailer frame. If it still doesn't work, remove that wire and connect directly from the slide out frame to the motor. If it still doesn't work connect from the motor to the trailer frame.

One of those have to work. You have lost ground connection between trailer frame and motor.

Let us know how it turns out.

Last night I searched for a ground wire that is connected from the main frame to the slide out frame but could not find one. I attached my own ground wire from the main frame to the slide out frame but still could not get the slide to operate. It seems the only way that i can get the slide to operate is to run a wire from the ground connection at the back of the switch to the main frame of the RV.

I'm no electrician either, but from what was described it appears to me that the problem with the ground lies between the switch and the 12v fuse panel.

If you wired it as you are suggesting would not that over ride the purpose of the fuse?

Texas...I honestly have no idea. The wiring diagram in my owners manual shows one wire from the + side of the battery coming into the switch with a 30 amp breaker in between. It shows 2 ground wires running from the switch back to the - side of the battery and then 2 + wires running into the motor.

What I'm thinking is that one or both of the wires that are shown going back to the - side of the battery from the switch are actually grounded to the frame at some point and these points have lost a good connection.

Your 12v fuse panel diagram shows no slide out circuits?

This seems to be a fairly simple problem and someone who knows more than I do will hopefully help out.

I know you have checked this from another direction, but if you disconnect the switch wires and wire them together what happens?

There are no slide out fuses in the box other than one marked "slide out lights" and all of them are good. By connecting the two + wires together behind the switch, I assume would be testing to see if my switch itself was bad. Replacing the switch with a new one was one of the first things I did. Since I know now that the switch is not my problem, I'll be taking that back to the store. That little thing was almost 30 bucks.
