good morning all.
We have been seasonal camping for several years and have allways put out feeders for the birds and allways had a problem with the chipmonks eating the seed and scatering all over the ground. We've tried every way i can think of to stop them, they will empty a feeder in a couple days. Does anyone know of a way to at least slow them down?
I do know about the bucket and sunflower seed method but don't want to be hung from the same tree that the feeders are on.
I would be thankfull for any and all sugestions.

Just let them go at it. Or put feeders out for the birds using something the squirles don't like. My squirles get black oil sunflower seeds and althought they make a mess it is worth it in our urban setting.

You could try stapling their robes to a tree branch.

Off topic but my FIL would put sunflower seeds on the ground for the ducks near his seasonal site. After a rain the seed would ferment and he ended up with some very high ducks and squirrels. Very funny to watch a drunk duck try to paddle away.

Aflac it wasn't.

As suggested, (& ideally) you shouldn't be feeding the birds - let Mother Nature take her course.

That said, I also feed them, but only on an occasional basis. I rationalize it by thinking of my efforts as a supplement.

My chipmunk solution is a baffle on the feeder pole. Or, if all else fails, .22 bird shot works well.

Hang the feeder on a sheperds pole and coat the pole with vegetable oil. That will stop the chipmunks for a while but not the squrriels.
