Do you know some items to bring for camping and hiking? I need to buy a set but I do not know where to get it and what to buy. Help me please........thanks....
One thing I found, is to make all your electrical items (GPS, flashlight, radio, signal strobe, etc) run on the same type of battery. And if you're carrying the batteries, use AA.
A solar charger is good to have also, use it to recharge a cell phone.
Included in your first aid kit, have a 3 day supply of prescription medications that you/your family takes. Include the pets.
If you store water, change it out periodically.

When camping and hiking, communication gadgets should be secured as they could mean the difference between life and death (I'm not scaring anyone, just expressing my opinion.) Anyway, I do agree with SAR Tracker, you need to have the same type of batteries for your devices. In my case, we use Motorola batteries. We also bring pocket knives and lots of water along.
I would consider a SPOT Personal Tracker or a SPOT Connect, a plan, and insurance (paying a small amount for insurance is a lot cheaper than paying per foot a rescue heli charges.)
The device plans are about a C-note a year, insurance is $13 a year, and IMHO, well worth it if out in the wilderness where cell phone service just plain doesn't exist.
If you mean what to carry with you when you are day hiking, here's what I take:
A hiking companion
Lots of water
Clothing appropriate for possible weather
Good shoes/boots
Whistle for signaling
Compass
Map
Matches and magnesium striker bar
A few paper towels
Snacks
Cell phone - which may not work, of course
A small trash sack
Know your route and your limits
And the knowledge to use matches, magnesium striker bar, compass, and map.

A lot of people spend a lot of time designing the ultimate survival knife. What you really want in a knife is something that is tough, easy to sharpen, will help in starting a fire and can be used o cut things in a pinch (like limbs for a shelter).

Get yourself a (bright colored handle if you can) carbon (not stainless) steel one. Get a plastic sheath for it and wrap it with some bright colored duct tape (enough to be useful).
A carbon steel blade is best for fire starting. That and a fire starter will be your backup if the matches fail.
You can hit the back of the knife with something heavy to cut down a small tree.
This guy Ragnar has a bunch of them. The web site is archaic but his prices are reasonable and he's always come through for me. Google up Mora knives on the interwebs..even Amazon has them. Remember, carbon steel...not stainless.
I actually carry three ways to make fire, cheap lighter, matches, and firestarter/knife. I also have tinder.
Buy this book. It is an easy quick read and the guy has no agenda to sell crap. He is also the first guy I have EVER read to say that you need to tailor your kit to the environment you will be in and he doesn't know where you are going.
