We all read the threads and try to adhere to what is safe while towing. Being a little new to towing a travel trailer I am still learning the finer points. Yesterday I passed a travel trailer that was being towed right at 80 mph. No, I wasn't pulling my tt, I was driving my Miata. I was behind this tt, thinking, look, he is pulling in and out of traffic passing just about everyone so I thought I would see what was pulling that tt. I pulled up close but I was doing 80 mph. Things started going through my mind on what can happen to him at those speeds. This forum has made me aware of what is safe and not safe. I think this one went into the unsafe category. The tv was a Ford F250.

That person is crazy. There are many persons out there that drive that way no matter what and do not respect others. It is a shame that they might cause an accident maiming someone else and driving away.

How did you get a Miata to go that fast??....just joking!

It happens to me at least twice a season where i am doing 65mph towing only to be passed by someone else towing down the left lane of the highway at a very high rate of speed. I just hope when the day comes that they have the mishap they are alone!

Sometimes things happen (whether you're driving a Ford or any other brand). I made an overnight trip back to Topeka from Yellowstone and towed at speeds in excess of 80 MPH with my 04 model F 150, due to an emergency at home. I don't LIKE towing that fast but it certainly can be done. I arrived in Topeka less than an hour before my daughter underwent emergency heart surgery.

I believe I would have dropped the trailer before risking mine and a lot of others people's lives and well being. Even a F-150 can cause a big mess.

Skip...i wasnt going to comment and being a parent that has had a child needing emergency surgery i can understand your thought. However certainly you must look back at this and realize there was a better solution than towing a trailer at 80mph.

There's a good reason to use LT tires in place of ST.

I hear the speed limit on I-35 between Austin and San Antonio is being raised to 85 mph. Gonna make it tuff passing those Miatas :-)
