A CG like that would get me to pass by it. Few phones allow the users to change the default Wi-Fi channels. Plus, I'm assuming they would be actively monitoring signals from people in the RV.

Enforcing that implies they actively snoop and eavesdrop on all Wi-Fi communication, for purposes other than making sure their camp Wi-fi is working. That is wrong on a lot of levels.

I have my Samsung Galaxy Nexus set up now as a 4G hotspot. I am searching high and low in "Settings" and find no mention of channel settings.

I am also looking for a way to determine broadcast channel settings on my home, Cisco router and, so far, no luck.

Guess you could always use PDAnet BT or USB.
I don't find it on the stock hotspot either. I haven't used the stock hotspot capability, but I've used numerous third-party apps and they allow it. Sorry for the confusion.

On your router I would guess it would be in the settings where you set your SSID.

The stock hotspot for my Verizon Thunderbolt has the Wi-Fi channel in the advanced settings (Hit the "menu" across the bottom of the handset and select the "Advanced" choice that pops up.

No , they did not say that
they are saying any equipment you use must use a specific channel and must be encrypted,
it can Not be an open unencrypted system & signal

This should not be a problem,
most people have their MiFi or router encrypted just for privacy to avoid identity thieves
right now I can see four wifi signals on other nearby RV's, all are encrypted

It's the channel 11 part I can't get. I have no idea what channel my Nexus is using.
Download WiFi Analyzer and it will show you all the networks in the area, including your own.

I just spent 20 minutes going through all the options under "settings" and found nothing advanced. The only settings I have available are the security settings where I set the SSID and password and select Open, WPA PSK or WPA2 PSK.

OK got that. My home systems is on channel 6. I can't see my own hotspot because it requires that my access to receive WiFi from another source is turned off. WiFi receiver must be on to use WiFi Analyzer. It has to be one or the other but can't be WiFi in and WiFi out at the same time.

Man, when I'm at a campground, I just want to get out online and read the latest doings of the Kardashians and that young guy who was married to Demi Moore (Ashley something-or-other).

I've got no time to mess with channel changing and SSDI, and worrying about the other guy's network settings!

I can understand the restriction. When you have 2 or more radios on the same frequency things do not work well, They must be using channel six and likely channel 1 (1 6 and 11 do not interfear with each other, Channel 1 is shared with a higher power radio service and you can get slammed on that one)

Same with my Verizon HTC Incredible.

From home screen hit menu

Settings

Wireless & networks

3G Mobile Hotspot settings (make sure the mobile hotspot is Not turned on when you do this)

Screen comes up with Router name,Security, etc

Menu

Advanced

Wi-fi channel

Channel lists Auto, 1-11

Select the channel you want to use

Mine was set on auto.
If you have the hotspot active when you try and do this it won't let you access the channel change screen.
