In 06' had Airlift System with Rancho 9000XL and Airbags put on my 05' Dodge Diesel 4WD truck. 3 years ago 1 bag broke so went to Edmonton Canada Lance dealer.(only Choice). He removed both bags and put timbrens on. That worked for 3 more years until this year when both left front and rear air shocks rusted at the top and blew. Need replacement shocks and getting advice like "put back on original shocks with the timberns" to "adjustable shocks without the air but with hand adjustable settings. Lance 1191max takes the weight to the maximum GVWR of 12,200 lbs. Any suggestions here? Orig. Lance dealer says take cab controlled air system out and put hand adjustable on. what you say?

I don't like the in-cab controller for 9000s. But the manual knobs will rust and eventually lock up also.

You are aware that Rancho 9000s have a lifetime garentee? Send them back with a copy of your receipt and they will send you brand new shocks.

Man control knobs are plastic and should not rust.

Keep the 9000 shocks!! I have rum the on ever rig I own, installed many sets in me 4 x4 shop, never had a problem in 10+ years.

Keep the in cab control. If installed correctly it will be trouble free.

Are you talking about adjustable Rancho 9000 shocks, or air shocks. Ranchos are not air shocks. They are gas/oil shocks that have adjustable oil damping. There is no air inside the shocks.

If you have actual old school air shocks that you pump up with an air compressor, get rid of them. The shock mounts were never intended to support the loaded weight of the truck. That is what the springs are for.

Ok, I can see the hand adjustable Ranchos on the back. But, being unfamiliar with the hand adjustable, is it possible to manually adjust reaching through the springs on the front to the knobs to turn them when they are encased within the spring? Looking at it I dont think so but really dont know. It seems the cab control would work, as they seem to have done at least to this point. There has got to be someone in my area who has the answers but am having trouble finding them. I don't know diddly about them. Would stock heavy duty shocks work for the front with adjustables on the back?

Plain old non-adjustable heavy duty shocks from Bilstein or KYB or Monroe will work just fine up front, and in the rear too. I've run Bilstein shocks up front on my truck for years. I used to run the Ranchos in the rear, but replaced them with Bilsteins when they wore out because I just don't need the adjustable feature in the rear. The Ranchos were nice and worked fine when I had them. I prefer the Bilsteins though and they are a bit less expensive too.

NO they are NOT air shocks, however they use an AIR COMPRESSOR to make ADJUSTMENTS to the variable settings (9 stages) from inside the cab.

Its all dependent upon where your shocks are located in relationship to your springs. Generally speaking the control knob is accessible with ease...reach down and make the adjustment. I have run them on a lot of rigs and never had any issues getting at the adj knob.

year, make and model of your rig and I will see if I can look it up in the Rancho Master Catalog...

Don, It is an 05' Dodge 4WD extended cab Dually special ordered back then with heavy duty package, 5.9 diesel. What are your thoughts on the Bilsteins. Boy, it is hard trying to make a decision on what way to go. I wish there was a shop in this area that specializes in this. Both front and back left side went bad as they leak air at the top. Not sure which bilsteins go with it or which Ranchos to put on, the hand adjustable or stick with the cab controlled, as the system is now over 6 years old.
