I had Dish and fell for the ad to get Direct and a free dish for the MH a few years back. I couldn't wait for that 2 years to be up and get back to Dish. I am back with Dish now and happy.

Had Dish up to the point when they told me I could not take a receiver from my house and put it in my motorhome. Accused me of stealing their service and violating their terms of use agreement. Said if I wanted Dish in the MH, I had to set up a seperate account. This was in Jan 2006, so I'm sure things have changed with them since, but that forced me to go with DirecTV.
I specifically set up a MH account with DTV, and their tech came out, installed two receivers, tuned in my roof dish, set me up a ground dish on a tripod, and I was set. Price has gone up about $18 a month over the past 6 years.
Only issue I have with DTV is my authorization expires on a regular basis, and I have to call their 1-800 number to get the receiver's authorization reset.

Been with Dish for about 10 years. Wasn't bad, but right now I'm ready to throw them away. I swapped receivers and had more issues then any one customer should put up with. The latest is the tech came here, took my purchased receiver and smart card and replaced them to fix a problem. When looking on my online Dish I see now that it is tagged as leased equipment.... Grrrr...
Prior to that the last phone tech was just plain reading off a manual. I'm sure if you handed them a screw driver they wouldn't know which end to hold.
If you have Dish now and everything is working, I guess you would think they were great. I use too, but not anymore given all the issues I had with a new purchased receiver.
When we bought our coach new from the factory, it came with two DirectTV receivers. I called DirectTV and they could not understand how I could have two receivers and not have service. I felt like I was in a Three Stooges movie. I can't tell you how many times I had to call them to straighten this out.
Finally, they turned on our service. Sometime after that we put Dish at our house in the country and decided to use an extra receiver for just $5 more a month. I had DirectTV disconnected saving the $60 a month.
I would say customer service at DirectTV was awful, Dish has been fine.
The only problem we had was that our new Dish receiver wouldn't 'mesh' with our Satelite. I had to buy a $400 computer update from the satelite maker and then everything worked fine. So, it pushed my savings back about 6.5 months.
The only problem is that the authorization will expire if I don't use it monthly but a quick phone call seems to get everything going.
If I were building a new coach again, I would skip the satelite option. 99% of the campgrounds have cable or our TV antenna can pick up channels. If a campground doesn't have cable and our antenna can't pick up a signal, then it's a DVD night!

We have had Dish at home for many years and added it to the RV last year. Nothing but praise on my part for their customer service. Quickly helped me get the receiver for the RV set up and working.
Everytime we travel to a new area, I call and have them change my service to the nearest local channels. They are always friendly and prompt (and speak very good english) each time I call. They have numerous call centers (from the same 800 number), but most I have gotten were in the US; Denver, El Paso, etc. Only once in the Phillipines and she spoke great english also.
No problems at all here.

I have had DISH for maybe 20 years . They told me I could take the receiver to the cabin
on camping trips
in my coach
I pay for the service to a certain receiver , where that receiver is is of no concern to them - Ohio or California what does it matter to them I am paying to watch TV.
You got some numb skull that was talking baloney . You don't leave the company because some numb skull has no clue about what he speaks of .

I have little faith in what the news media report. My mother use to say "do not believe anything you hear and only half of what you see." I have been a Dish customer for about 11 years and have never found their CS to be anything but excellent. When I have had problems which have been rare my biggest challenge has been talking to someone who has command of the english language. Usually I just keep asking the person to speak sloooower and eventually our brains are adequately connected.
I have Dish, wanted to go to Direct as all their channels were on 119, they wanted me to set up a separate account for the MH. All I got years ago for Dish was the RV exemption because the FCC required it. Direct told me I had to have 2 accounts and would only turn the house off for 3 months. So we stayed with Dish, just can't get the spot beams as we only have 1 head on the MH. I get the networks both East and West from American Direct off Dish sat as here at home on the border with MD, my zipcode gets "locals" in northern PA. Never have had a problem with customer service.
I have had Dish Network for many years and CS is great. When we travel in the MH we just move the receiver to it. They have a RV tech dept. if needed. HD at home and in MH at no extra cost and their comment has always been "It is your service take it where ever you go." No separate plan or cost.
Well Gang,
As usual, it seems there's varying opinions and or experiences. At this point, based on the reading here, it seems the majority of "Dish" users, are happy with there relationship of them and the company. As for Direct, the jury's still out. Many have had pretty good luck with them but, lot's haven't.
It still amazes me that there's still at least some, issues with both companies. How could one company accuse one RVer of almost stealing company equipment (receiver) and yet, the same company is authorizing another RVer to "take it where ever you want, you're paying for the service, use it"??? It' also seems the right hand has no idea what the left hand is doing. Some are very happy with either company and some sincerely not.
It sure seems like it's just like many big companies that "used to be CUSTOMER oriented and have gotten to big for their britches. They forget where they came from. I've seen the same thing with Sirius/XM radio. Some have good service and customer relations and others, have had tons of trouble. Anyway, it is what it is. I hope someday, these two companies get their heads on straight and each and every RVer who, uses either one, and has any issues gets them resolved in a fluid and completed manor. But, that may be hoping for too much.
