My refrigerator stopped working. I turned it on the other day and I could hear the ammonia gurgling in the system and it didn’t get cold. I had been using it nonstop for about 16 months then it sat off for about 3 or 4 months. I have removed the frig and have it setting upside down I have been told that will fix them sometimes. The power works so this should get rid of the vapor lock anyone know how long I should let it sit before I turn it over and reinstall it?

Unlike a compressor type fridge which needs to sit upright for quite a few hours, this absorbtion type unit can be started as soon as you've re-installed it.

I'd let it sit 24 hours unless you need it before that. I figure 8 hours might do it if you need it right away.

OK but how long should it stay upsiddown before I turn it rightside up? It must take some time for the air bubble to dislodge. Will a day do? I turned it last Sunday so if I try it on Saturday is that enough time? Thanks

Gurgling can mean your hydrogen has leaked out so the water can boil due to drop in PSI of the cooling unit charge.

Get you an Amish cooling unit option if that is the case.

From what I read on the web, gurgling is a indication that there is a blockage and is pretty much not repairable. Usally caused form getting over heated. Good luck. Keep us posted.

David Force seems to do the marketing for Pines RV Refrigeration.
