For anyone who is towing an HHR, I'd just like to know where you have safely installed your breakaway switch. I had installed mine on a crossmember just a few inches behind the facade on the underside of the car, somewhat in front of the engine. Now, I'm not sure what happened, but, since the car is quite low, I must have hit a speed bump a little hard and it seems like I've shattered my breakaway switch.

I'm looking around there to put a new one, but I don't see anywhere else where I could put one with the pin facing forward where it wouldn't destroy the facade if it were to ever come out.

Do people mount these with the pin facing down? I would think that this would be more likely to break the ring on the pin instead of pulling it out if something were to happen, but I'd really like to hear where people have these installed. I don't want to spend an additional $75 to keep buying new breakaway switches every 2 trips.

I towed a 2009 HHR with great success and installed the breakaway switch under the bumper fascia next to the front license plate area. Worked great and the pin that activated the switch could pull straight forward and came out nicely in test, although I thankfully never had the need to try it for real. I used large, sheet metal screws to mount it and it worked out well.

I towed our 2009 Chevy HHR behind the Mobile Suites and mounted the break-away switch the front bumper above the Tow Bar.. No issues at all. Happy Trails...
