Hows the coverage reception up and down 101 from Petaluma north to Astoria?

It varies, you should have Edge at a minimum but it does vary based on larger communities up and down the Oregon coast.

We have an Air Card for our laptop for 3G with AT&T. Does anybody know if Brookings, Port Orford, North Bend, Florence, Newport, Lincoln City, Seaside or Cannon Beach have 3G for viewing a 15" screen rather than a tiny Iphone.
I am going to google an AT&T coverage map for Oregon to see what they show.

Just viewed the AT&T coverage viewer and saw most of those cities have varying degrees of 3G coverage, so we should be in good shape for our trip late Sept.
Stupid me, I should have viewed the website first before posting, oh well.

I made that trip 2 years ago with an AT&T phone. I switched to Verizon as soon as I got home. I have never had so many dead spots as in that part of the county and Western Colorado.

No worries RG, actually what that show is pretty deceiving. We camp each year just south of Florence, OR at the dunes. The map shows strong coverage, but I can say that the Edge signal we got at Honeyman Campground was pretty lame, I'd have to hold my phone just right and leave it alone so it could download email. Not a big deal since I'm on vacation, but if I wanted a better signal I'd hop on my ATV and hit the first sand dune out of camp. Used to be I had to drive out to the highway for any signal though, so I'm not complaining to much.

I figure if we stay at a rv park with wifi then that will work or go to McDonalds or Starbucks or maybe even a business that advertises free wifi.
Don't want to spend time on the internet, just check email, bills, etc.
AFTER ALL, WE ARE ON VACATION!! LOL
thanks for the replys

Check out the Wilson Sleek on Amazon. About $85 for the 3g model. It's not magic but will help a lot. I have a couple of Sleeks. Just bought my first 4g model. I have internet where others can't call or text.

AT&T is OK only in major metro areas. Out in rural areas the coverage with Verizonwireless is by far the best and Sprint and T-mobile are not even worth considering. Best deal for wireless data is with Millenicom.com which provides a free modem and no contract obligation so you can stop the service at any time with no penalties.

Before we got the Millenicom and Verizon service we would head to the nearest library and use their WiFi. With any of the free public hotspots you need to be careful as it is very easy for anyone to intercept all your traffic including logon ID's and passwords.

US Cellular works the best in NW CA, Oregon Coast and Central Oregon.Verizon is hit and miss and ATT is nearly useless except in towns.
