My Coby system gave up on us last night. I am looking for a replacement that will work with my setup. The speakers are wired into the ceiling. Where can I find a system where my speaker wires will plug into the unit? Current unit is a Coby Dvd-937

Not looking to spend a fortune just want something that works.

What is on the end of your speaker wires?

Just the wire itself. That is what I am looking for a unit that has the ability to plug the wires in the back. Kind of old school but that is what I have.

I have a Sony that speakers hookup as you describe. Just strip the + & - wire back, push the tab on the system down and insert the bare wire in the unit. I think most Home Theater Units are set up this way so you can make speaker wires whatever length you want.

I need to replace the DVD receiver unit as the speakers are in the ceiling. I am having trouble finding a unit that has the hookups for the speakers that hook up as mine do.

Don't know what stores you have in Canada. You will need a home theater type system to drive the speakers.
Had the same speaker hookup you describe. I replaced mine with a Panasonic DVD/home theater system from Best Buy. However, I could not a system that did not include new speakers. So I replaced my speakers with the new ones using the existing wiring.
Try any large electronics store and look for DVD/home theater systems. Best Buy had a number of different units from different manufacturers. I chose the Panasonic because it was closest in size to my old one and I had limited space to install it.

Then buy the exact same unit. You'll have to get it from Amazon or eBay because the Coby DVD-937 has been discontinued.

The deal with "all-in-one" systems like yours where you get a DVD, FM/AM, and speakers is that the speakers are typically not 8 ohm like "standard" home theater speakers.

So you may experience problems if your DVD-937 uses 4 ohm speakers and you hook up an 8 ohm receiver to them.

The DVD-937 manual doesn't list speaker ohms, but the newer DVD-938 does (4 ohms). The two models might be the same or might not.

I have been having trouble finding a replacement unit. I see that the 938 has the same hookups as the 937 so I may just order that one.

As long as the amlifiers are rated to push a similar load (4ohm Speakers), then just get any system you like. Clip the wires for the speakers that come with the new system and splice them to your existing speaker wires. Just stay consistant with the polarity.

Every one of those all-in-one systems that I have examine have run 4 or 3 ohm speakers. Most use digital amps like in car stereos. Not the purest sound but they have no problem driving low impedance speakers and get more volume that way.
