We are brand new to RVing and have just begun shopping. We are having a tough time deciding between a TT or 5th Wheel. Please share why you love one over the other.

you are bound to find it biased toward TT on this forum as we all own a TT. I chose a TT as it fit our lifestyle better and when we were shopping, we had an SUV. The biggest things you need to look at are weight requirements (ie if you have a 1/2 ton then look at tt and not 5er) and floorplan requirements (ie what works better for your needs) and finally budget.

fifth wheels tow better but they are heavier than a TT. this is the biggest reason why more people tow TT. most have smaller trucks and the TT fits that bill. fifth wheels usually have more storage than a TT.

Wife can't hardly do stairs. Not easy for me to do. Have had several old dogs who couldn't do stairs. Never seen a 5er without stairs on the inside. No 5ers for us.
Yes there are stairs on the outside to get in to either. Formerly used a ramp, but over the years it got too hard. Now have an outside elevator.

Lots of other posts on this. Take your pick as it is mostly preference. Forget all those old sayings that fifths tow better, they are heavier, are better quality etc. Things have changed and those are from the old school. We now have better hitch systems that will tow like a fifth (expensive but are there). Some of the new higher end trailers are heavier than most fifths, fifths do generally have heavier pin weight except for some of the big higher end trailers, some of the newer style have the same storage systems as fifth wheels, T Trailers can be as long or longer and high end quality the same as fifth wheels. If you like a fifth wheel they have been the standard for years but the mfg are starting to realize that there are many that would prefer a trailer to a fifth so the are starting to respond. We prefer a trailer due to filling the back of the truck being available and thought our next unit would have to be a fifth. After researching we may end at a fifth but my eyes got opened that I can get the same features, quality and towing in a trailer if i look around.

My 2c go look at them and find what you like. Floor plains, height inside, kitchen, fire place or bunks. Happy shopping.

If your not concerned about storage in the back of the truck then get a fiver. If, like us, you carry lots of "stuff", the TT is a great way to go.
Also your physical condition comes into play. If the idea of heavy lifting and wrestling with a trailer hitch isn't so easy to do anymore then a fifth wheel will be a lot easier on you.

I towed a TT for 12yrs. I switched to a BIG HORN 5th. Wheel. The advantages for the 5th wheel (for me):
1. Tows/tracks better
2. More stable and less subject to wind buffering ie wind from 18 wheel trucks
3. Hooking/unhooking easier and less time
4. Storage space greater

The TT we like is actually heavier than the 5th we are looking at. DH is a bit worried about the weight of the TT in the Colorado Rockies. I think our truck will be fine (03 F350 V10 4x4) - GVWR on the TT is 10,970, but he would rather go with something a bit lighter.

I went from a 25 foot fifth wheel to a 32 foot travel trailer. The 5th wheel towed better, but the TT backs easier, to me at least. They weigh within 500lbs of each other. A TT is usually lighter. Gained two slide outs and 7 feet of length for 500 lbs. The TT porpises more.
For full timing the 5th wheel works well because of the ease of hook up and towing. The TT takes more time to hook up. I do like not having the rails and hitch in the bead.
Just depends on what you want to do. Both have there strengths and weaknesses. All things even the I feel the 5th wheel is easier to tow and hook up.
