We moved to Virginia last year and took our Dodge Dually w/Artic Fox camper to a local repair shop that did the required safety check. We were underwhelmed with the service.

We live in Loudoun county and I was wondering if anyone familiar with the area could suggest a reputable garage that can do safety checks on a vehicle with a large camper. We would prefer not to have to remove the camper.

We like the place that does our other vehicles, but they don't have a bay high enough to leave the camper on the pickup.

tks.

If the "safety check" you are referring to is the periodic Virginia inspection that is required annually, it is a joke. Only some places are authorized to perform the inspection and my impression when living there was that it was an easy way for a second rate garage to pick up a few bucks without doing much. Find a place that will do the inspection without ripping you off for unneeded repairs and then get your regular servicing done at a reputable garage.

Here in Fredericksburg VA the local RV dealership has a large maintenance bay and gets all the big RV trailers. I take my OFF-ROAD POPUP to a local state inspection place in Westmoreland County to get my inspections and stickers. They are all a bunch of hunters in there and like to play around with my OFF-ROAD camper... I get my truck inspection on same trip. My brother-in-law always took his camper back to Manassas VA where he purchased it and let them do the local inspection and winterizing at the same time each year.

I see the hugh RV dealership on I95 between F'sburg and Richmond has a big maintenance bay at their location. Bet they do RV inspections as well.

Restless Wheels on Rt. 28 in Manassas should be able to do what you need.

There's a guy in Purcellville (sorry I don't remember his name, it's been 6 years) who does ONLY inspections, no repair work so you don't have to worry about him trying to run up a repair bill. It's a pretty large wooden building with no sign except for the official VA inspection sign. It is near an EXXON station right in the middle of town on the south side of the road. I used him for years before I went full timing. I've always had big motorhomes and some with air brakes. No problem for him. Take a ride out there and check him out.

Thanks for all of the responses. I got an appt. at the Dodge dealership in nearby Leesburg. We needed to find somewhere that was open on Saturdays to do the inspection.
