RE: Awning MAT?

I've had several types and now I have the plastic fold up mat from wal-mart and it beats anything elses hands down. Light, folds up in an instant, It is light even when wet and can hose off and dry quickly. Will never use the astro turf mess again.

RE: chevy 2500HD Tires

I'm on my 3rd set and 3rd brand of 285s on the stock aluminum wheels. 10s of thousands of miles of very heavy loads. Zero issues with tire wear or wheels. It is quite easy to show tire failure issues or pictures of tire failures but I have yet to see or hear of even ONE of these wheels fail. Someone please show me just one these wheels failed from overloading.

RE: tire upgrade

All I'm going to say on this is that I have burned many a gallon of diesel and traveled many a miles with a heavy load on several different brand tires, all 285s, on stock 6.5 wheels and have had zero problems and love the ride and look. FAR better that the stock 245s in every way. The speedo can easily be reprogrammed by the dealer or most power programmers. I use the hypertech.

RE: Henderson Beach SP, Destin, FL First come sites

Yes they have 6 walk up spots according to Reserve America. I was able to reserve the nights I needed at Rocky Bayou. I have not stayed there yet, just drove through it once. Looking forward to it.

RE: Deciding on the best 5th wheel hitch?

I have the 18K Reese and really like it. I can't see how any hitch would interfere with air bags. If I was buying again I would get the same hitch. I think its the best manual slider there is. If money where no object and I wanted the absolute best automatic slider I would go with the Pullrite.

Henderson Beach SP, Destin, FL First come sites

I have stayed here before with reservations and am very familiar with the area and park. I will be in the area the last few days of June and of course all reserved sites are taken. My question is how do the first come first served sites work? Is there a daily wait list or do they go to whoever is there waiting at the actual time someone leaves and opens on of these sites up? Staying here would be my first choice and Rocky Bayou my second. What are my odds? Thanks.

RE: New Weird Goodyear G 614 question---Bead Angle ????

Just stating my experience with the G614s. I had them mounted on Factory GM aluminum wheels the same as the wheels on my truck. Ran them 1000s of miles with no problems. When I sold the trailer I took them off and installed them (tires and wheels) on a heavy utility trailer and am still running them. They are great tires IMO.

RE: And now...the rest of the story...in pics

Super job!!!! I'm sure you will enjoy your camper even more now than you would have without having to do this repair. If I ever need repairs like this done I'm going to look you up!

RE: hitch and bed saver question

Let me clarify. If some want to use the bedsaver by all means do so! They are for sure cheap insurance. My main point was to bring out how important it is to know and understand the mechanical aspects of the hitches and how important it is to accept and educate yourself them and to take great care in doing things right. I just hope some don't think that because they have a bedsaver they don't have to be quiet as careful as they would if they didn't have one. I'm sure this dosn't apply to most who have them, as they are just adding a safety factor to something and that is a good thing.:)

RE: hitch and bed saver question

IMO, If you feel you need a bedsaver then you probably shouldn't be hitched to something this big and heavy and driving down the highway shared by me, my family, friends and everyone else.. My point is, if done properly every time you cannot drop your trailer. If you cannot to 100% sure you are doing it properly and understand it then just maybe you shouldn't undertake the responsibility of towing the beast in the first place.:)

RE: lance campers

The 830 is nice but there are several other options as well. I really like my 845 (8SCS). Regardless, do your homework and make sure you set your truck up properly. If you go with a hardside camper you will need to beef up your tires and suspension to be comfortable and safely handle the weight. IMO, air bags, super springs, or Timbrens, along with quality shocks will be a must.

49 CFR 575.103 - Truck-camper loading

This has likely been posted before but I have never seen it and thought it was interesting. Federal regulations for truck campers

RE: My Dinette from U shape to L shape

Great job, I really like it! As I have basically the same camper I think I'm going to do that too. I may look into a way to also quickly convert back to a bed if needed to, but for now I need the space a lot more than I need the extra bunk.

RE: Starting over

Just a thought about selling your house - are you sure it's a good time to do that? If you sell, you might get socked with a hefty capital gains tax. Don't know about your state, but worth looking into. Now is the worst time to sell the house but she can't afford it and I have no need of a house that big and all the upkeep involved anymore. Dumping the house would be like cutting a dragging anchor and allow me to get debt free quickly and sure up my retirement. No capital gains tax to worry about either. With this economy, I'd be careful about doing anything for a year. You say you have a great job, but things unfortunately change. Think it through and try to plan for as many contingencies as possible. I'm fortunate in this respect. There are many many job openings in my industry for people with my experience level if my current job ended, which is unlikely too. If in the end it works out, good for you. FTing is a great life, but it does take a little massaging to get there.

RE: Floorplans RL vs RE

With the RE setup, it blocks your view out of the back window when the tv is up. Have to say that one made me laugh!

RE: Slider Hitch Effectiveness

Yes it will make a difference but probably not enough to warrant sliding it if you have enough cab clearance already. Try it and see, you need to practice sliding it anyway:) Oh and one more thing...don't fall asleep thinking because you had enough cab clearance on level ground to think you will never have contact. Once things get uneven that thing can get close to the cab before you know it....always watch.

RE: Floorplans RL vs RE

The only problem with the rear TV is everyone will be turning their head sideways to view it. Our side mounted Tv swivels out to angle any direction for more comfortable viewing at the table or kitchen area.. That is our reason for selecting the side entertainment model. Now that makes sense but I see myself laying on the sofa more than sitting;) Any other reasons advantages of a side entertainment FP?

RE: Floorplans RL vs RE

I suppose we are supposed to guess the manufacturer's name? bumpy I am looking at the Heartland Bighorns now. But in general I have found that most manufacturers models numbers that end in RL=rear living and RE= rear entertainment.
