Where What When

I am curious, We have thought about full timing but never really planned for it. We have decided to relocate primarily for better weather. The house is almost sold. Now, an opportunity may present it's self for full timing. I was just wondeing where and what others have done for the first 6 months? Did you just head for warmer weather? Visit family and friends? Made it an extended vacation? I just don't see myself taking up residence at a RV Park without a reason for being there? We have a 36 foot Toy Hauler with Harley Davidson. Normally we spend 6 weeks in Wyoming and Montanna during the summer..

RE: Planning to Toy Haul Full Time - Looking for Advice

Buy design Toy Haulers are built heavier than a standard trailer. 10 years is a long time to predict or plan out a full time 10 year strategy. The high end rigs are nice no doubt. But I think I would consider invstr55 suggestion. Get a mid level Toy Hauler. It will hold up for five years just fine as long as you don't take it rock crawling. Then in five years you can trade it in on a new one. Or who knows, you may be done with full timing by then.

RE: Dexter EZ-Lube Bearing Maintenance

Interesting that Dexter would go through all the trouble to design a system where the bearings can be lubed with a zerk fitting, give it a catchy name like "ez lube" and then tell you not to use it... Might as well have named it never lube? A friend of mine wanted to grease his new rig with ez lube Dexter axles and was told by the dealer just to give each hub two or three pumps with a grease gun. I had just done mine so I know that this was not right. Per the Dexter instructions and fjrider has it right on. If the hubs have never been greased before it will take a lot more. Mine took 35 pumps with the grease gun, turning the wheel slowly and pumping slowly, before you start to see grease come out. If you have old grease in there you will see the old grease start to come out and then the new grease. It will be easier to see if you remove the dust covers. Pulling your bearing each year for a repack! What if you only towed 500 miles? I pull mine and hand pack every 10k, until then I use the ez lube. Because I wanted to make sure after the 35 pumps with the grease gun, I pulled the wheels to check the seals and they were fine. Here is a test we did http://i1120.photobucket.com/albums/l483/1l243/Hub%20Grease/Grease001.jpg width=640

RE: Towing KZ MXT 312 w/half ton GMC???

Maybe If OP specified the year and make of truck and umbers inside the door sticker we would get a better Idea of what he is working with. Also, is this a rig you own already or are thinking about getting?

RE: Towing KZ MXT 312 w/half ton GMC???

He is on the edge. And I agree that that is a pretty big trailer to come in with such a light curb weight but they make plenty of half ton towable trailers...

RE: Oregon As State Of Residence

Orygun don't care about vehicle purchases. I suspect if they made money by collecting taxes they would. I bought vehicles in CA and registered them up here, no problem. A friend in CA bought a motorcycle from New York, had it shipped to CA went down to register it. He was told could not register it in CA because of the low mileage and he had 30 days to sell the vehicle OUT OF STATE. The vehicle was red flagged so he could not go out and put several thousand miles on it and bring it back to DMV... I am glad I am gone from that state.

RE: Oregon As State Of Residence

Yes, but you will have to pay sales tax on the vehicle from your resident state, assuming the state has sales tax. Since I have lived in Oregon (10 years) I have purchased four trucks, five motorcycles and 5 recreational vehicles and other high priced appliances and no sales tax on any of them. Oregon also has low DMV fees. Where I use to live CA, DMV fees were 5 times what I pay here, property tax was more and you have to pay 10 cents of every dollar to the state for everything you purchase. And if you live in Ca you can't buy a new vehicle or one with less than 7000 miles on it out of state. Now if want to talk about Oregon weather.....It rains here......alot.....

Would you be able to buy a vehicle in Oregon?

RE: Blocking

Only someone who lives in Oregon would call what happens here DAMP! da da dit dat che it ..... Sorry had a meltdown, not enough vitamin D....... Actually I think about getting away for a few days during the winter but I live about 10 miles from a large State Park and it feels like I am camping in my back yard...Well, I guess I could camp in my back yard.... I actually have never blocked any of my rigs but was reading about it and was wondering if anyone did it.

RE: Oregon As State Of Residence

I can see why Oregon requires you to be a Oregon resident prior to requesting continuous traveler status but MUST you retire from a Oregon business to qualify? Continuous Traveler An applicant who travels continuously may use a residence address of "continuous traveler" if the applicant is a resident of or domiciled in Oregon but has no physical home in Oregon. For instance, an applicant who has retired from an Oregon employer may present papers indicating he/she sold a home in Oregon and purchased a motor home

Oregon As State Of Residence

Anybody using Oregon as their State of residence? What address do you claim for your DL? If we do this I would go with a UPS box or some similar postal forwarding service but I have read that you can not use this as a address for your DL?

RE: Not as perfect as it sounds?

I am going to suggest a different approach (I know this a full timing forum) But, can we assume your young being in college? Your income may increase when you finish college and can spend more time on your chosen career path.. Rent or if you can, buy a home. I know that there are those who say throw caution to the wind and go for it. But, if your young there will be plenty of time for you to travel. Good luck...

Blocking

I was wondering how many out there block there trailers so tires are off the ground when in storage during the winter. Although I don't like it mine sits from about November to April and was wondering if I should block it or not..

RE: Towing KZ MXT 312 w/half ton GMC???

Very nice looking Rig... Specs say TW is 1120 lbs. TW on Toy haulers could be more or less than factory specs depending on how it's loaded. Of course you wll be using a WDH to level things out. You may have to go with some airbags and sway control...... Almost 36 feet long...About as long as mine and sometimes I am surprised how long it is...

RE: Planning to Toy Haul Full Time - Looking for Advice

Buy new and knock down the MSRP price by at least 25%. Full time live in will be above average wear and tear, I would consider some kind of extended warranty plan...

Don't forget about one the most popular crimes out there, Identity Theft. Some Methhead would sell your personal information for a package of happy dust..

RE: What kind of safe

You can be a victim any time any place. You can protect your important papers in a fire safe. Just don't put anything valuable in it..

RE: What kind of safe

Fire safes are not security safes. They are more interested in keeping fire out than Crooks. Do not get a digital or electric lock type safe. Nothing with a key, jiggle keys, barrel lock pics and other tampering devices are sold on ebay. A good old fashioned combination lock. No outside hinges. Bolt it to the floor next to a wall. If it's next to a outside wall bolted to the floor it will be almost impossible to get it out. If your carrying a gun for safety to prevent an intruder it should not be in a safe unless your leaving the trailer or you got children around. It should be in your pocket, waistband or on your night stand... Safe Cracking on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eOdmMb90YEE
